The penultimate round of the Bundesliga season takes place on Saturday afternoon and unlike most leagues around the world, this set of matches all kick off at the same time, so there is no significant advantage for anyone.
We already know the champions and the first of the two sides who will be relegated from the division but there is so much more yet to be decided and there are plenty of matches on Saturday that has something on it, which makes for an exciting day.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (All 14.30 UK time)
FC Köln v Eintracht Frankfurt
Mainz 05 v Werder Bremen
Bayern Munich v SC Freiburg
FC Schalke 04 v VfL Wolfsburg
Fortuna Düsseldorf v FC Augsburg
Hertha Berlin v Bayer 04 Leverkusen
RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund
SC Paderborn 07 v Borussia Mönchengladbach
1899 Hoffenheim v Union Berlin

Preview
In terms of the size of the two teams involved the biggest match of the day sees RB Leipzig taking on Borussia Dortmund in a match which sees third hosting second with Leipzig able to guarantee Champions League football next term with a win. Bayer Leverkusen will also be able to do that if they can win at Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach do not win away to already relegated Paderborn. Champions Bayern Munich play host to Freiburg.
At the other end of the table things are hotting up nicely and there is a big clash as Mainz look to secure their safety when they host a Werder Bremen side who could be relegated if they lose. That would happen if Dusseldorf can get a home win against Augsburg. Elsewhere Schalke will look to end their terrible form when they host a stumbling Wolfsburg side while Hoffenheim and Union Berlin meet. The other match on the card sees FC Koln taking on Eintracht Frankfurt.
Betting
It is that last match that gets my attention from a betting standpoint on Saturday. I’m not getting massively involved in this fixture list, I rarely do at this stage of any league, but I can’t ignore the potential for goals in the clash between FC Koln and Eintracht Frankfurt, where you can actually get a half-decent price on over 3 goals at around the 1.78 mark. Based on what we’ve seen since restart it wouldn’t be a surprise if Frankfurt covered this line on their own.
I find it hard to believe that the visitors are going to keep a clean sheet though. They have only done that once since the return from lockdown and that was against a bang ordinary Werder Bremen side. FC Koln are in no great form but they are perfectly safe from relegation and can play with a bit of freedom here. They have scored in every game since the restart which is a positive. Five of the seven Koln matches have had four or more goals in them and another had three while four of the seven Frankfurt games have contained four or more and three others have had three. At worst I expect a push but I’d be surprised if we’re not collecting on the over 3 here.
