2019-20 Bundesliga – Sunday 31st May Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Bundesliga weekend continues with a couple more matches on Sunday afternoon as the race to qualify for the Champions League next season takes the centre stage, along with events towards the foot of the table.

Saturday saw runaway leaders Bayern Munich continue their march towards the title and on Sunday we get to see the response of Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach, both of whom are heavy favourites for their matches.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Union Berlin (14.30)

The afternoon begins at Borussia-Park where Borussia Monchengladbach will look to elevate themselves back into the top four when they play host to a Union Berlin side who are slowly beginning to get reeled in by those in the relegation zone.

Gladbach came back from the break in fine style with that win at Eintracht Frankfurt but it has gone a little stale for them since then. They were well beaten by Bayer Leverkusen and then held by Werder Bremen last time out. Union Berlin finally got off the mark for their return in midweek having suffered tame defeats to Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin prior to that. Union have done most of their work at home this season which is a concern but to be honest Gladbach look priced just right, if a little short here, especially in light of their weak effort at Werder in midweek. I’m in no rush to get involved here.

Paderborn vs Borussia Dortmund (17.00)

The second match on the Sunday card in the Bundesliga sees two sides at very different ends of the table colliding when the bottom side Paderborn host the team who are second going into the weekend in the form of Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund will be reeling from the defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek, a loss which has pretty much ended their title hopes, and now they will have to finish the season well to ensure they don’t drop out of the mix for the Champions League spots. Paderborn have seen Dusseldorf suffer a heavy defeat already this weekend and they know that a win here would claw them to within five points of taking their chances in the relegation play-off.

Paderborn have drawn all three matches since the resumption but have only scored one goal in that time. That means they have only conceded one too but they’ve faced nothing like the potency that the Dortmund attack possesses and that is a concern. There is a little bit of a concern how Dortmund will react to the midweek loss and that they are likely to be without Erling Haaland for this match but it isn’t like their season is over so if they are on it they should have way too much for the strugglers. I’ll take them to cover the -1 Euro/normal handicap.
