The rush to end the delayed Bundesliga season sees a midweek round of matches taking place this week. They begin on Tuesday night and they do so with the biggest match of the season and one which could give us many clues over where the title could end up this term.
There are four matches taking place across Germany on Tuesday evening and each of them has something on it with the way the table is currently situated so we should get a decent evening of football action to enjoy.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK time in brackets)
Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich (17.30)
Bayer Leverkusen vs Wolfsburg (19.30)
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Freiburg (19.30)
Werder Bremen vs Borussia Monchengladbach (19.30)

There is no doubt where the centre of attention on Tuesday night will be. That is Signal Iduna Park where the top two meet in the second ‘Der Klassiker’ of the season as Borussia Dortmund host Bayern Munich. The title won’t be won in this match but Bayern will have half a dozen victory laps should they come out on top here. If Dortmund can find the win then the title race will catch fire ahead of the remainder of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach sit fourth and fifth going into the night while Wolfsburg are sixth and all three are on show on Tuesday evening. Bayer host Wolfsburg in another appealing match while Monchengladbach go to face struggling Werder Bremen. The other match sees Eintracht Frankfurt looking to end a serious slump when they host a Freiburg side who haven’t pulled up trees since the resumption of the league.
Betting
I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the evening. I get the argument that because Bayern Munich don’t need to win and can play for a draw that their clash with Borussia Dortmund will be low scoring. I get it but I can’t be having it. I don’t think Bayern can play for the draw because their defence looks there for the taking to me, and we saw evidence of that against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. With no disrespect to Frankfurt their attacking mite doesn’t come close to that which Dortmund carries. In saying that, although they’ve kept two clean sheets Dortmund really need Mats Hummels in their defence to look convincing. Bayern don’t need to win but they can’t just sit back and look to contain in my eyes. I think we’re going to see goals here and although the line is over 3.5 goals I still think it covers.
The other bet I like is for Borussia Monchengladbach to beat Werder Bremen. I’m not an odds on backer normally but I’ve watched both of Werder Bremen’s matches since the restart and I’ve been unimpressed on both occasions. They actually won one of those matches against Freiburg on Saturday but they didn’t convince then. Monchengladbach were beaten at the weekend but Bayer Leverkusen are quite a force at the minute so I’m not going to hold that against them. They looked a very slick outfit in beating Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend and a repeat of that should be more than enough to get the job done here even at 8/11.
