We have one match in the Bundesliga on Wednesday evening as two teams catch up on the rest of the sides in the German top flight when troubled Werder Bremen host Eintracht Frankfurt on a clash which will have big implications on the bottom end of the table.
Werder go into the match in the bottom two of the division but they will climb out of the automatic relegation places if they can win here. Frankfurt had a much needed win at Wolfsburg on Saturday but still aren’t completely safe themselves.
Werder Bremen
Given their form going into the lockdown period and their comprehensive defeat to Bayer Leverkusen coming out of it, Werder Bremen looked absolute certainties for relegation and it looked like they would go down pretty tamely too. Things have changed since then however. They have won two of their last three matches, drawing the other one and keeping clean sheets in all three, and all of a sudden there are signs of life in the team who are looking to preserve a lengthy stay in Bundesliga.
If there is a concern then it comes in the form of a lack of goals. Although they have won two of their last three matches, they have only scored twice in that time, but on the flip side of that, the worst defence in the division a few weeks ago are suddenly keeping clean sheets, a commodity that they have been starved off this term, but which will serve them well if they can maintain their defensive solidity you would think.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Defeisve solidity is certainly something you can’t attach to Eintracht Frankfurt. They have leaked goals like a sieve for much of the season, but certainly since the Bundesliga restarted. They have let in 12 goals in their four matches since the competition resumed, although to their credit they finally picked up a heavily needed win away to Wolfsburg on Saturday. If we are continuing to be kind to them, eight of those 12 goals were scored by Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich.
The real disappointing result for them was the 3-3 draw with Freiburg, a match they actually dominated but it doesn’t look good that a goal shy side like Freiburg were able to score three times against them. To Frankfurt’s credit, they don’t lack for goals themselves. They might have shipped 12 in their last four but they have notched eight of their own in that time so if they can just tighten up a bit at the back they’ve enough in them to haul themselves away from any immediate danger.

Team News
Werder Bremen are expected to welcome defender Milos Veljkovic back from suspension for this match but they have a doubt over key man Leonardo Bittencourt, the player who has scored their two goals in their last three outings. Milot Rashica could miss out after exiting early against Schalke.
Andre Silva has found some form since the restart and he is expected to lead the attack for the Eagles in this match. Lucas Torro was dismissed late on against Wolfsburg so he will serve a suspension here while Gancalo Paciencia is expected to miss out through injury again.
Betting
This isn’t the easiest match to bet on since the return to action. We have free scorers against a tight defence here and on this occasion I’m going to side with the team who have been keeping clean sheets which is Werder Bremen. Eintracht Frankfurt have been miserable on their troubles this season and even though they won at Wolfsburg it wasn’t really a deserved win. I just can’t get away from the amount of goals they concede.
Werder aren’t the most free scoring side around but you would expect them to get their chances against this profligate Frankfurt defence which is coughing up chances by the bucket load, and in Davy Klaasen, Bremen have a creative source who is just finding a bit of form. The key will be at the other end where Bremen will have to work hard to keep Eintracht Frankfurt at bay but it is worth remembering that a centre-back remains the top scorer for the visitors this season despite this recent flurry of goals. A draw might not be a bad result for either here and this could end up as exactly that but the upward curve on Werder Bremen is stronger than their opponents so on the draw no bet line they are the play.
