Big Matches

The biggest match of the lot on Boxing Day comes in the latest game of the night when Leicester City look to move to within seven points of Liverpool when the top two collide at the King Power Stadium. There will be a lot of attention around that game and rightly so but the other two matches away from the 3pm slot have plenty of intrigue to them. Brighton will head back up to North London looking to do the double over Tottenham Hotspur while Manchester United will be aiming to have the double completed over them when they host their former star Steve Bruce and his Newcastle United outfit.

Best of the Rest

Two new eras begin over the course of the afternoon when Carlo Ancelotti takes charge of Everton for the first time and Mikel Arteta does likewise with Arsenal. Everton host Burnley while Arsenal make the trip down to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth. Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Southampton at the weekend when they play host to Norwich City in a huge game at the bottom. Sheffield United will be hoping for three points when they host the bottom side Watford while Chelsea host Southampton and Crystal Palace meet West Ham in the other two matches.

Betting

I’ll go with three bets over the course of the day and night with the first of those coming in the form of an Everton side who should be motivated under new boss Carlo Ancelotti. If you can’t be motivated under him there is nobody that will be the case with so I’m happy enough to take the Toffees in that clash. Burnley are a hit and miss side at the best of times but I actually think they match up fairly well to Everton and the Toffees can negate their problems and use their pace in key areas to get the job done in this one.

Manchester United are not particularly convincing these days and were horrendous against Watford on Sunday afternoon. Admittedly they are slightly better in front of their own fans but that isn’t saying a whole lot. Even when they are good at home, they struggle in matches where they have the majority of the ball and there is no doubt they are going to see plenty of it in this contest. Newcastle United will be happy to sit in and soak up pressure and then look to get stuck in on the counter attack, of which United have shown their vulnerabilities over recent times. Newcastle are in receipt of 1.5 goals on the Asian lines here and that looks too much to me.

Finally I’ll go up against Liverpool in the final match of the night. Liverpool have had a bit of a hectic run and there has been plenty of travelling and acclimatising to different conditions and things like that to do as well and that is not easy and they have picked up a fair amount of injuries over the course of that. Leicester City were beaten by Manchester City on Saturday evening but they ran into the champions at their absolute best in that game and for half an hour they still looked like doing something. In front of an amped up crowd I fancy Leicester can be the first team to see off Liverpool, but not lose the game at the very least. They troubled Liverpool at Anfield before a shocking decision denied them a point. They can make up for that here.
