2019-20 Premier League – Leicester City vs Newcastle United Tips and Betting Preview

Leicester City have the opportunity to showcase their hopes of a top four finish in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon when they host Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium in the only match in the division on the day.

The Foxes went into the weekend in third place in the top flight table and will maintain that position if they win this game while Newcastle have not had the desired start to the season and will be eager for the points to ease the pressure on themselves.

Leicester City

Many people expected this to be a good season for Leicester City and that is the way it has started despite their defeat at Old Trafford a couple of weeks ago. They bounced back from that with a fine win over Tottenham Hotspur last week and will go in search of a successive victory here. Having walloped Luton in the Carabao Cup in midweek, Brendan Rodgers’ men go into this match with the confidence very high.

No side in the Premier League have conceded fewer goals than Leicester City. If there has been a concern or a surprise with them then it has come in the form of a lack of goals. They have only found the back of the net eight times in their six outings and you would have expected more than that from them, but they have played a couple of the top six in that time which could be why. You sense they are warming to the task though.

Newcastle United

This was expected to be a season of struggle for Newcastle United under Steve Bruce and it is panning out that way, although it would be remiss of us not to point out that they have only lost one of their last four matches so things might just be turning around for them. Their only win so far this season came on the road and they did hold this opponent to a draw in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season so there are a few things going for Newcastle.

The obvious issue that they have got is that no team in the Premier League has scored fewer than their four goals and if they are going to not just turn their season around but push on and secure safety this term they are going to have to find the back of the net more than that. Whether they can do that within their defensive structure remains to be seen but you would suggest if that are able to it is more likely to happen away from home.

Team News

Leicester City could be without classy playmaker James Maddison for this match after he took a blow to the ankle last week. Jamie Vardy was rested for the Carabao Cup tie in midweek and he will return for this one.

Newcastle United have injury doubts over three key men in Andy Carroll Allan Saint-Maximin and Sean Longstaff even though they are said to have been passed fit to play. DeAndre Yedlin has recovered from groin surgery and is in the squad after five months out.

Betting

I don’t think you need to be too much of a tactical genius to work out how this one is going to play out. Leicester City will have most of the ball and Newcastle United will dig in and look to get something from a set play or a counter attack so both teams should be well prepared for the task that faces them in this contest.

By virtue of the fact that Newcastle don’t score many goals and don’t concede too many either I’m not expecting to see a high scoring match here but if Leicester are to have anything about them at all this season then this is a match they should be winning. I do think that they will win. I think they have enough class to unlock the door and once they’ve done that they have the quality to stay in front. Leicester to win and under 3.5 goals looks the way to play this one.
