2019-20 Premier League – Monday 20th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

We have reached the final week of the Premier League season and three matches take place on Monday which could yet have implications on who qualifies for European football next season and who may not.

Once again all three matches are live on the various TV channels that are showing the Premier League over the course of the evening so there is no reason to miss a single ball being kicked as we head towards the conclusion of the season.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Newcastle United (18.00 – Sky Main Event, Sky Premier League, Sky One & Pick)

One of the two early matches to kick off comes from the Amex Stadium where technically Brighton and Hove Albion require a point to guarantee their Premier League status for next season when they host Newcastle United.

I say that Brighton need a point to survive but their goal difference is that much better than Aston Villa that it is going to take something unlikely for them to go down. Nevertheless, they have the chance to make absolutely sure against a side who since they guaranteed their own survival have picked up just the one point from four matches. If Brighton were any sort of price here I’d probably have chanced my arm but the fact that a point will do them puts me off taking them at a short price.

Sheffield United vs Everton (18.00 – Amazon Prime Video)

The first of the two matches which really has some meaning on Monday night comes from up at Bramall Lane where one of the success stories of the season in Sheffield United host one of the bigger disappointments of the campaign in Everton.

Sheffield United have had a couple of shocking performances since the restart but they were away to Manchester United and Leicester City and I think they can be excused somewhat. What interests me more is their home form which has seen them win all three matches, against Tottenham, Wolves and Chelsea. Everton have only picked up three points in their last five on the road since lockdown and they came in a narrow win at Norwich, which doesn’t really carry much weight. Even when they’ve got results at home they’ve not really impressed.

When you throw into the mix that the Toffees have a few defensive injuries going into this one and are playing for nothing motivation wise, I like the idea of a home win. Generally when Sheffield United put in a no show Chris Wilder has them bang up for the next match so I expect them to be fit and firing here. The Blades can still qualify for Europe so I’ll take the home win in this one.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Crystal Palace (20.15 – BT Sport 1)

The other team who are battling hard to attempt to qualify for Europe next season across these Monday matches are Wolverhampton Wanderers and they host Crystal Palace in a match they have to win in order to keep their hopes alive.

They probably couldn’t have asked for better opponents either it has to be said because Palace have been on the beach for a while and are going to be missing some key men for this contest. Palace are going to be without Patrick van Aanholt, Gary Cahill, James Tomkins and Christian Benteke and Luka Milivojevic could also miss the game too and for a team with a small squad that isn’t good. Wolves are slightly better off in the squad department which bodes well for them.

Palace reached the magical 40pt mark in their first match after lockdown but since then they have lost six on the bounce and the only game they scored in during that time was against a wretched Chelsea defence. You could argue Wolves haven’t convinced over the last few weeks but they are still clearly in a better shape than Palace and I’ll take them on the -1 Asian handicap here. I don’t see them not winning the game so we shouldn’t lose our money but with Palace missing so many at the back Wolves should have a bit in hand by the end.
