2019-20 Premier League – Saturday 10th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The first weekend of the new Premier League season continues with six matches over the course of Saturday afternoon, with them hopefully being as entertaining as the campaign opener at Anfield on Friday evening.

Liverpool laid down their marker in that match and on Saturday it will be up to the likes of the champions Manchester City and Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur to follow suit. They compete in the two TV matches.

Early Kick Off

The action gets underway at the London Stadium where West Ham United have the first chance to showcase their potential improvements when they go up against the champions Manchester City. The Hammers have signed well in pre-season and excitement is building in the capital but City looked ominously good in the Community Shield last week and will lay down for nobody this season you feel. This should be an entertaining way to get the action started.

3pm Matches

We have four matches in the traditional 3pm slot on Saturday. Newly promoted Sheffield United are in action in these games. They make the long trip south to take on Bournemouth while Burnley play host to Southampton who have a long-distance trek of their own. Crystal Palace welcome Everton to Selhurst Park with all eyes on Wilfried Zaha who was rumoured to be a target for the Toffees in the transfer window this week. The other match comes from Vicarage Road as the FA Cup finalists Watford take on Brighton and Hove Albion

Late Game

The final match of the day comes from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs play host to the other newly promoted side in Aston Villa. Both these clubs have spent a tidy fortune in the summer so there will be pressure on them to get off to a good start to the season. Spurs have a decent record in their new home and will be expected to beat an Aston Villa side, who in truth could be anything but who should struggle somewhat here.

Betting

I like two in the Premier League on Saturday with the first of them coming in the early match where there surely has to be goals between West Ham United and Manchester City. West Ham have made some excellent signings this summer but none of them have been in defence where they had a real weakness last season. They will hurt teams even more this season but that’s no real use if they can’t keep them out at the other end. City have seen Liverpool plunder four in their opening match and you know they’ll be out to respond in kind here. I’m expecting a pretty open match here and one where goals will flow pretty naturally. I’ll take over 3.25 goals here.

Sheffield United might outperform expectation this season but I’m not convinced they will do that on Saturday. I say that because they did a lot of business late on in the window and that is always a concern of mine. You would think it will be hard for their latest signings to feature in this match. Bournemouth have strengthened nicely in the summer and even the absence of Daniel Brooks isn’t going to hurt them too much. They generally get up and running nicely and usually put the weaker teams to the sword. They can do that again here.
