2019-20 Premier League – Saturday 31st August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The final Premier League weekend before the first international break begins with a busy Saturday as eight of the 10 matches in this round take place over the now usual three kick off times on the main day of action.

We have to wait until Sunday for the big clash of the weekend but Saturday will give us last season’s top three on show so there is no shortage of star quality doing battle over the eight games so it should be a good day in the top flight.

Early Kick Off

It is actually two sides who were nowhere near the top three who get the action underway when Southampton host Manchester United. Both these teams will be looking for wins having only picked up one of them in their opening three matches. Southampton’s came last week though so that might have perked them up a little. Man Utd will be looking to bounce back after their surprise defeat to Crystal Palace seven days previous.

3pm Matches

There are as many as six matches in the usual 3pm slot this week. The first of those comes from Stamford Bridge where the Europa League champions Chelsea entertain the new boys Sheffield United. Crystal Palace will look to build on their win over Manchester United last week when they host an Aston Villa team who also picked up their first win of the season last weekend. Leicester City are yet another team who won for the first time a week ago and they take on a Bournemouth side who could do with a decent result themselves.

The champions Manchester City are also in action in this kick off slot. They take on the side they beat in the FA Cup semi-final last season in Brighton and Hove Albion at the Etihad Stadium while there is a big game up at St James’ Park where Newcastle United play host to Watford. The other match at 3pm sees two entertaining sides meeting at the London Stadium where West Ham United take on Norwich City.

Late Game

The last match of the day comes from Turf Moor where Burnley will look to lay it down to the Champions League winners Liverpool. Liverpool are the only side in the division who are yet to drop a point so far this season but Burnley have begun the campaign promisingly themselves and will feel they can be mischievous. There is nothing they love more than going toe-to-toe with the big boys so there is an air of intrigue about this one.

Betting

There is only the one bet that I like across the entire card on Saturday. There are one or two which tempt me but I’ve been in decent form so far this season and there is no need to push it on bets that I’m not wholly comfortable with. Given all that I’ll take the one which comes from the London Stadium where West Ham United host Norwich City.

I don’t think it will surprise anyone that the bet I like here is for more than 3 goals in the game and I expect it to be covered relatively early in the piece as well. Both these sides have goals in them but perhaps more importantly both of them have the potential to concede a number of them as well. Norwich have scored six goals already this season but leaked eight while West Ham scored three at Watford last week but have already shipped eight themselves. Whoever scores them I think these two exciting attacks can find more than three goals here.
