2019-20 Premier League – Sunday 11th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

An entertaining first weekend in the Premier League season draws to a close on Sunday afternoon when the final three fixtures are played on what looks like being another decent day of action in the English top flight.

We’ve already seen Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham lay down their title credentials this weekend and on Sunday we’ll see what Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have to offer the party. Two of the three games are in front of the cameras while the other one can be found if you search hard enough.

Newcastle United vs Arsenal (14.00)

The first of the two televised matches comes from St James’ Park where yet another new era begins for the home side when Steve Bruce takes charge of his first Newcastle United match. Arsenal are the visitors looking to make a vast improvement in their away form after a difficult campaign on the road last term.

The first rule of betting on this league is not to go near Arsenal away from home at odds on. You don’t get a return nearly enough to make that a profitable strategy and while backing both teams to score in their road games offers much more potential, I’m not sure I want to be relying on Newcastle to do anything useful. This is a classic watch and assess rather than chuck money at sort of game.

Leicester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (14.00)

The one match away from the UK live cameras comes from the King Power Stadium as Leicester City host Wolverhampton Wanderers in a match which could well give us an early flavour of who might be the best of the rest this season.

There is plenty of optimism around Leicester City this term and it will be interesting to see how they go about breaking down an organised and well-drilled Wolves back line. It will also be intriguing to see how Wolves cope with the rigours of midweek Europa League action and then the hustle and bustle of the Premier League at the weekend. I’d give Leicester the edge here but not by enough to back them.

Manchester United vs Chelsea (16.30)

The big match of the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign is saved for last as two sides who could be a little in limbo meet at Old Trafford when Manchester United take on Chelsea in a standout fixture.

This match marks the first game in charge for Frank Lampard while it is also the first chance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to show he learned from last season and has put together a United side capable of getting back in the top four, which must surely be the minimum requirement. Both teams have plenty of doubts and frailties about them but they have a chance to prove their worth here.

I wouldn’t say I’m convinced by either this season but one of them will prove me wrong here. I do however think the best bet on the match is for both teams to find the back of the net. If Harry Maguire does play for United here he won’t be used to his teammates and so United could well be vulnerable while Chelsea lost David Luiz pretty late and could be unsettled at the back themselves. We have two attacks looking to prove themselves here and so the 4/5 on both teams finding the net appeals here.
