2019-20 Premier League – Tottenham vs Everton Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend concludes with a Monday Night Football this week as Tottenham Hotspur host Everton in a match which sees two sides who have hopes of being in Europe next season.

If that is to happen they both really need to win this match so there should be no shortage of competitiveness about the match. Everton won’t need reminding that they haven’t beaten Tottenham in 14 attempts, so all eyes will be on them to see if they can end that run here.

Where to watch

The match is live in full on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Premier League. The build up to the game begins at 7.30pm with the match itself getting underway at 8pm.

Tottenham Hotspur

After the results already this weekend, Spurs find themselves down in tenth going into this match. They haven’t had the best time of it since the restart. They were outplayed in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United before a convincing looking win over West Ham United. It all came crashing down to earth last time out though when they were beaten by Sheffield United in a clash they failed to land any sort of a blow in really.

It is becoming more apparent that this Tottenham squad does not fit the Jose Mourinho way of playing. Defensively they look a bit of a mess and they can soon run out of ideas going the other way if teams sit deep and deny them space. The onus is on Spurs to attack here so it will be interesting to see how they go about that. They only played on Thursday night so have had less time to recover than their opponents, something Mourinho is sure to reference at some point.

Everton

It has almost gone unnoticed that Everton have made a wonderful restart to their season. After holding Liverpool to a goalless draw in one of the worst matches since lockdown, they have gone on to pick up two wins in succession. They might not have beaten much in Norwich but the win over Leicester was more impressive, and has already had that form franked this weekend when the Foxes picked up a win over Crystal Palace.

In those three matches Everton have only leaked one goal so the time Carlo Ancelotti has had with his squad has clearly been put to good use. If Everton finish the season with a flourish they could yet make the top eight, which will be enough for a spot in Europe should Manchester City not get their ban overturned. Everton have a good defensive formation but they also have the attacking personnel to cause problems which makes them dangerous here.

Team News

Dele Alli and Harry Winks were among the players left out of the starting XI for the defeat to Sheffield United and it would be a surprise if at least one of them don’t come back in. Juan Foyth and Japhet Tanganga remain out.

Everton expect Richarlison to be fit to play despite him picking up a knock in the win over Leicester last time out. Fabian Delph and Theo Walcott will be missing while Bernard will be hoping for a recall to the starting XI.

Betting

I’m against Tottenham Hotspur here. I haven’t been that impressed with them since the restart and I wasn’t impressed with them at all prior to it. Their only win since lockdown was against West Ham but there was no guarantee they would have won that if their opening goal had been ruled out as it should have been by the letter of the law. Everton have been much more convincing since football returned and I think they are the side to be with here.

Rather than take them to win the game, I’m going to take them on the +0.5 Asian handicap which means that we only need Everton to draw the game for the bet to be a winner. Tottenham have only won one of their last six either side of lockdown and having had 24 hours less to prepare for this one I’m not convinced they’ll be much better here. Everton look a side with a lot of improvement in them and can maintain their unbeaten run here.
