2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – Saturday 17th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

Fulham got the Championship weekend off to a good start on Friday night and the third round of matches in the second tier continues on Saturday with 10 more fixtures on a competitive looking card across the country.

There are two teams on six points in the league after two games and they are both in action on Saturday so it will be interesting to see how they go. All the matches kick off at 3pm with no televised action for once.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Barnsley v Charlton Athletic

Blackburn Rovers v Middlesbrough

Brentford v Hull City

Bristol City v Queens Park Rangers

Luton Town v West Bromwich Albion

Millwall v Sheffield Wednesday

Nottingham Forest v Birmingham City

Stoke City v Derby County

Big Matches

Sheffield Wednesday are one of those sides who have a perfect record in the season so far and they have a trip to Millwall to negotiate if they are going to keep it that way. The only other team with a 100% record so far are Charlton Athletic and they are also away from home on Saturday afternoon. They make the trip up north to face fellow promoted side Barnsley. Leeds United are the big fish in this division and they head to Wigan looking to bag all three points.

Best of the Rest

Two sides in the division are yet to pick up a point and both face home matches which you feel could be big for their confidence. Blackburn Rovers entertain Middlesbrough, who themselves only have one point to their names. Stoke City are the other side without a point and they welcome Derby County to the Bet365 Stadium. Elsewhere West Brom make the trip to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town while Bristol City go up against QPR. Nottingham Forest host Birmingham City and Brentford take on Hull City.

Betting

I like two bets in this division as well. I landed a punt with over 2.5 goals in the Luton Town game last week and it is a bet I expect to land this week too. There are goals in this West Bromwich Albion side under Slaven Bilic but there is a real shaky look to them, especially from set plays where they have looked a bit of a mess at times. Already this term Luton have scored three of their four goals from set-pieces so that is an area of interest in the game. Both teams are likely to play with a bit of a cavalier approach which should make for an entertaining game, one which the Kenilworth Road crowd can be treated to three points in.

I also like both teams to score when Brentford take on Hull City. Brentford won 1-0 last week but the good lord only knows how Middlesbrough didn’t score in the match while both teams have scored in both of the league games to feature Hull City this season. I wouldn’t say either of these sides are defensively strong and both are prone to an error in that department but their attacking units look like they are ready to fire nicely so the 1.75 on both sides scoring here just looks a little too big in my eyes.
