The latest round of matches in the Championship continues on Saturday as the division begins to prepare for the final stage of the campaign and after an entertaining beginning to the fixtures on Friday night we should have much more of the same on Saturday.
As ever we have a live match to enjoy to kick off the action and then there are plenty of ways of keeping up with the remainder of the matches over the course of what should be another great day of football.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)
Hull City v Brentford (12.30pm)
Birmingham City v Nottingham Forest
Charlton Athletic v Barnsley
Fulham v Huddersfield Town
Leeds United v Wigan Athletic
Middlesbrough v Blackburn Rovers
Preston North End v Swansea City
Queens Park Rangers v Bristol City
Sheffield Wednesday v Millwall
West Bromwich Albion v Luton Town
Big Matches
The televised match comes from the KCOM Stadium as Hull City begin life without Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen when they take on a Brentford side who will be looking to bounce back from their disappointment of losing to Nottingham Forest in midweek. Elsewhere, the top two both face sides in the bottom three as Leeds United welcome Wigan Athletic to Elland Road while West Bromwich Albion will look to revive their campaign when they host Luton Town at The Hawthorns.
Best of the Rest
There is a big clash at the bottom end of the table as Charlton Athletic host Barnsley with both sides looking for a win which will ease their immediate relegation fears. At the other end of the table, Nottingham Forest could move into the top two if they can win at Birmingham City while Fulham host Huddersfield Town looking to get right back into the automatic promotion shake up. Preston North End are on the fringes of the play-off places, as are Swansea City, and they meet at Deepdale while the other team flirting with the top six, Millwall, head to Sheffield Wednesday.
Betting
This first round of games after the transfer window closes is always a tough one to bet on but despite that I like a couple over the course of the afternoon and they’ll get underway in the live game where Brentford can see off a Hull City team rocked from losing their best two players on deadline day. Losing Jarrod Bowen in particular is going to have an effect, especially if Marcus Maddison needs a week or so to get up to speed at his new club. Brentford haven’t been completely reliable on their travels this term but they’ll never get a better chance to win on the road with their hosts having to come up with a new plan without their creative stars. That might take a while so I’ll back the Brentford BMW to motor past the Tigers here.
I also like the idea of goals at The Valley where Charlton Athletic and Barnsley will surely both be going for a win they both desperately need. These two will know all about each other having come up from League One together last season and they will know it is their best chance of winning a game at present. Charlton brought a few in towards the end of the window to help them out while Barnsley are not struggling for goals at the present time in any way. 4/5 on over 2.5 goals in a game both need to win feels like a decent enough price to me.
Tips
WON – Back Brentford to beat Hull City for a 4/10 stake at 1.95 with Coral
WON – Back Charlton Athletic vs Barnsley – Over 2.5 goals for a 4/10 stake at 1.80 with William Hill
