Big Matches

It is derby day as far as the television is concerned with the two rivalry matches being the ones on the box. The day begins with what is now a pretty big race in the promotion race as the form horses of Derby County take on a Nottingham Forest side who themselves have had a decent time of it since the restart. The attention then switches to Ashton Gate where Bristol City will look to kick their campaign back into life when they host a Cardiff City side who go into the weekend occupying the final spot in the play-offs. A home win here brings so many teams back into the race.

Best of the Rest

Leeds United have the chance to steal a march at the top of the table when they made the trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers. West Brom don’t play until Sunday so the Whites can turn the screw with a win. Brentford will be looking to pile the pressure on West Brom when they host a troubled Wigan Athletic side. At the bottom end of the table two of the bottom three meet when Stoke City host Barnsley, while Luton will be looking to come off the bottom of the table when they welcome Reading to Kenilworth Road. The other two matches see Fulham hosting Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town taking on Preston North End.

Betting

There are a few bets which tempt me on Saturday but with a winner under my belt on Friday evening I’m going to go with just the one which comes in the match down the bottom of the table where Stoke City play host to Barnsley at the Bet365 Stadium. These two sides have come out of lockdown in very different ways. Stoke are yet to win a match and have only picked up a point from three matches, all against opposition you would expect them to see off. Barnsley have seven points from nine and are yet to concede a goal.

Barnsley might not have beaten a lot in QPR and Blackburn, two sides who might already be on the beach this term, but they are not exactly playing much in Stoke either. This is a huge game for Stoke. If they lose here it is hard to see how they can stay up but you would have to think they are up against it here with the pressure they are under and confidence surely low. Barnsley’s form looks legit and I can’t avoid a punt on them on the 0.25 Asian line where even a draw wins half of our bet.
