2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – Sunday 28th June Matches, Tips, TV and Betting Preview

It has already been a dramatic weekend in the Championship but there is still time for even more drama and excitement as the latest round of fixtures conclude with two more matches from the division on Sunday afternoon.

Both matches are likely to have an impact on the top and the bottom of the table on an afternoon where the four sides in action all need points for their own quests so we should be in for another good day of football.

Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday (12.00pm)

Where to watch: Sky Main Event/Sky Football

The opening match of the Sunday double header comes from Ashton Gate where Bristol City will look to get their play-off charge launched again after a disappointing return to action last week. They go up against a Sheffield Wednesday side who offered up a semblance of fight for the first time in a while in their first game back.

It is fair to say these are two sides whose seasons need rebalancing. Bristol City go into the match with two points from their last six matches either side of lockdown, while Sheffield Wednesday have one win in 11 and with an EFL charge hanging over their heads they could need points bigger than they currently realise, so this is a big game for both teams. It isn’t all doom and gloom for the home side though. A win here will move them to within two points of the top six.

There is too much uncertainty in this match to merit getting involved in it with a bet I have to say. There wasn’t a whole lot to like about Bristol City in their defeat to Blackburn last week but I can’t be backing Sheffield Wednesday with the enormous cloud that is hanging over them at present. I’ll sit this one out.

Nottingham Forest vs Huddersfield Town (2.15pm)

Where to watch: Sky Main Event/Sky Football

The second match of the afternoon sees promotion chasing Nottingham Forest hosting a Huddersfield Town side who are battling hard to avoid successive relegations at the City Ground, in a match which is huge for both teams.

Forest have seen West Bromwich Albion and Fulham above them slip up already this weekend, and indeed if the hosts win this match they will move above the Londoners into fourth in the table and within seven points of the automatic promotion places with seven to play. Results on Saturday saw Huddersfield drop into the bottom three so they will be desperate to avoid defeat here to climb out ahead of another important midweek set of action.

Nottingham Forest are much better suited to playing away than at home but I still like them to win here. Huddersfield have only one win in their last eight away matches and that was only at Hull who were in complete and utter freefall at the time, and still are. A pretty tame home defeat to Wigan last week doesn’t bode well for them either. Forest have the players in attack to be so much more prolific than they are but if the likes of Joe Lolley, Lewis Grabban and Sammy Ameobi among others click here the home side can get three valuable points.
