2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 20th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

A hectic week in the Championship continues with a split set of fixtures in midweek, beginning with five games in the division on Tuesday evening. We have to wait until later in the week to see the truly fancied challengers in action which gives those a little less fancied the chance to shine.

As ever this season all the midweek matches in the Championship are live on Sky Sports in the UK, whether it is on the main football channel or behind the red button, so there is no need to miss any of the action.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows:

Birmingham City v Barnsley

Derby County v Bristol City

Hull City v Blackburn Rovers

Middlesbrough v Wigan Athletic

Sheffield Wednesday v Luton Town

New customers only, bet up to £/€20 on the Exchange and if your first bet loses, we’ll refund you £/€20 in Cash. Bet must be placed in first 7 days of account opening. T&Cs apply.

Preview

Only one side currently in the top six in the table are on show on Tuesday evening and I’ll be watching them with my own eyes at Hillsborough as it is Sheffield Wednesday. They take on my side Luton Town knowing that a win will move them to the top of the table for 24hrs at least. Luton will be eager for their first win of the season. Another promoted side are in action to when Barnsley make the trip to St Andrew’s to take on a Birmingham City side reeling from a good hiding at the weekend.

Three other matches take place on the night with the beaten play-off finalists from last season in Derby playing host to Bristol City while Hull City welcome Blackburn Rovers to the KCOM. Middlesbrough will look to get their first win under Jonathan Woodgate when they play host to a Wigan Athletic side who played a long time with 10 men at the weekend and who could feel jaded as a result of that.

Betting

It is that match at the Riverside which catches my attention in terms of a bet on Tuesday evening. I like the home side I have to admit. I saw Middlesbrough on the opening night of the season in a frenetic game of football at Kenilworth Road and they looked decent enough going forward but a little exposed defensively.

They’ve lost their last two matches 1-0 but Jonathan Woodgate has been happy with their performance levels both times. Wigan are notoriously poor away from home and after picking up a good opening win against a Cardiff side who I’m not convinced are as good as they are being billed to be, they’ve since shipped five and not scored themselves. This looks like a softer fixture for Boro and they can lift some of the gloom on the place with a win here at a more than acceptable even money.
