2019-20 Sky Bet Championship – Tuesday 22nd October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

There is a midweek round of fixtures in the Championship for us to enjoy this week and as ever they are split across two nights, with the first set of them on Tuesday evening before the remainder on Wednesday night.

The card on Tuesday looks a very good one and two of the seven games are on the main channels on Sky while the other five can be found behind the red button, so there is no need to miss any of the action involving our bets.

Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated)

Birmingham City v Blackburn Rovers

Millwall v Cardiff City

Preston North End v Leeds United

Queens Park Rangers v Reading

Sheffield Wednesday v Stoke City

Swansea City v Brentford

West Bromwich Albion v Barnsley (20.00)

Big Matches

The two TV matches on Tuesday evening sees Queens Park Rangers hosting Reading in a match where the points will be used for different purposes for whoever gets them. Rangers are riding high in fifth place in the table and could go higher with a win while Reading are two points above the drop zone and need the points to pull away. The other televised match sees Sheffield Wednesday taking on Stoke with both teams looking for the points for the same reason as the other TV match.

Best of the Rest

The top three are all in action on Tuesday evening. West Bromwich Albion go into the night on top of the table and they host bottom of the pile Barnsley while Leeds United in second face a tricky trip to Deepdale to face Preston North End. Swansea City are in third and they host Brentford while the other two matches have Birmingham City hosting Blackburn Rovers and Millwall facing Cardiff City in a match which might be livelier off the pitch than on it!

Betting

Two bets catch my eye over the course of the evening on Tuesday. I saw QPR at their very best for 30 minutes against Luton earlier in the season but I also saw them at their worst for an hour as well and I think between them and Reading we will see over 2.75 goals. Reading look pretty ordinary at the back but there is no doubting they have talent up front, even if we haven’t seen it as much as they would have wanted us to so far this season. They have the confidence of a win last time out which should boost their spirits though. I fancy QPR to win this match but they’ve not kept a single clean sheet this season so I’ll take the over in case something like 2-2 lands.

West Bromwich Albion look the best side in the league at the minute, especially in the forward areas where they have some real talent at their disposal in the likes of Diangana, Pereira and Austin to name but three. They host a Barnsley side who are winless since the opening day of the season and who have the unhelpful combination of not scoring many goals and conceding them at an alarming rate including 11 in their last four outings. West Brom have only lost to Leeds United this season and are in good nick at The Hawthorns. I expect them to have way too much for an ordinary Barnsley side.
