Big Matches

Coventry City are the team on top of the pile heading into this round of matches and they have a home game against the side who would be second bottom in the form of AFC Wimbledon. Ipswich Town are the nearest challengers to Coventry and they make the trip to Milton Keynes Dons looking for another win. The other really big match in this division on Tuesday sees Sunderland hosting Rotherham United in what is a clash between two sides who will be looking for promotion come the end of the season.

Best of the Rest

At the other end of the table Bolton Wanderers will be looking for progress when they host Oxford United while Southend United will look to continue a little revival when they head to Shrewsbury Town. Wycombe in third place host Accrington Stanley while Portsmouth are finally back in action when they welcome Burton Albion to Fratton Park. Peterborough will look to build on their huge win at the weekend when they head to Merseyside to take on Tranmere Rovers while Doncaster Rovers meet Blackpool in a match between two sides who have started the season well.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets on Tuesday night. The first of them comes in the form of the leaders Coventry City who might not get to play any home games this season but who have certainly not reacted badly to playing at St Andrews where they have won all four matches they have played there, conceding just two goals in the process. AFC Wimbledon are the next visits to the midlands and they head there off the back of four away matches this term and are still looking for their first point. I’m not convinced it comes here. Mark Robins has seen a lot of player turnover at the Sky Blues but he keeps producing good teams there. This version can see off AFC Wimbledon.

Peterborough United are beginning to tick along nicely under Darren Ferguson, a manager who I like. He is a good fit for Posh and could easily get them promoted with the firepower that is at his disposal this season. Interestingly it is losing their firepower that makes me fear for Tranmere Rovers. Rovers have played seven matches this season and their only win came against Bolton Wanderers and we all know what was going on with them. They were so depleted they had to cancel their following match so how much we can take from that win I’m not really sure. Peterborough might have the best strike force in the league and against a low in confidence Tranmere side I expect Ferguson’s men to come out on top once again.
