2019 Africa Cup of Nations – Monday 8th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The round of 16 finishes in the Africa Cup of Nations on Monday evening and it does so with four sides who will all fancy their chances of going all the way in the competition battling it out for the last two quarter final spots in the tournament.

We’ve already seen plenty of shocks and surprises in this round, mixed in with some excellent football on top and it remains to be seen what Monday will have to offer for us. It would be a surprise if there isn’t much of the same.

Mali vs Ivory Coast (17.00)

Two big sides in African football meet in the first of the two matches on Monday night when Mali take on Ivory Coast with both teams probably wanting to avoid each other this early in the competition to be fair.

The reason they didn’t avoid each other is that Ivory Coast couldn’t win their group and apart from their emphatic win over a pretty ordinary Namibia side last time out, you couldn’t really say Ivory Coast have shown anything so far. Mali have been going much better with a couple of wins from their three matches and a decent looking draw against Tunisia mixed in with that.

There is no doubt in my mind Mali have looked the better team of these two at this tournament and I’m happy to take them on the Asian lines which sees us getting a half win if this game ends all square. That Is excellent draw cover for a match I see Mali as the most likely winners in.

Ghana vs Tunisia (20.00)

The last match in the round of 16 sees Ghana taking on Tunisia in a battle of two sides who look pretty evenly matched despite the struggles of the latter in the tournament to date. They will tell you it isn’t how you start in these events but how you finish but they’ll need a big improvement to be competitive here.

If I’m honest, neither team have convinced me in this tournament but what I do like about them both is that they at least look to get on the front foot and have a go. I believe that should make for a decent enough match and the longer this round has gone on the more we’ve seen sides really go for it and the matches open up. I’m not ruling that out from happening here so at a tasty price over 1.5 goals is my punt in this one.
