2019 Africa Cup of Nations – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

The semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations take place out in Egypt on Sunday and by the end of the day we will know which two teams will progress to battle it out for the title of being the best side in Africa on Thursday evening.

We’ve had a tournament of shocks and surprises but despite that we have four strong teams doing battle for the two places in the final on what should be a competitive night of football as we reach the business stage of the competition.

Senegal vs Tunisia (17.00)

The first of the semi-finals sees probably the favourite for the tournament from here on in, Senegal, taking on the weaker looking side from the quartet still remaining in the shape of Tunisia, for a spot in Sunday’s final.

We finally saw the best of Tunisia in the second half of their quarter final against Madagascar and they need to keep on improving if they are going to go all the way in this competition. That is because they take on a Senegal side who have looked very solid so far and don’t appear to have too many weaknesses.

I guess the big question is did Tunisia announce themselves at the party in the previous round or had the going got too tough for Madagascar? I suspect it is the latter but I’m not too bothered either way. Senegal have looked very good in this tournament and I believe they will take their place in the final courtesy of another low scoring win here. I’m happy to be on Senegal and under 3.5 goals once again.

Algeria vs Nigeria (20.00)

The second semi-final shapes up to be an absolute cracker between two of the better sides in the competition and among the favourites throughout colliding when Algeria go up against Nigeria for the right to face Senegal or Tunisia in the final.

I’ve been pretty keen on the Algeria chances throughout the tournament and am regretting not taking them to win it before a ball was bowled and so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are to come out on top here. Nigeria have had holes picked at them so far in this campaign but they have come through in decent enough style. We are waiting for that real standout performance from the Nigerians but while they are in it they can still deliver it.

I fancy we will see a more open semi-final than many are expecting in this match. I say that because there are some really good attacking players on show here and Nigeria have that natural flair which sees them looking to get on the front foot and look to score. Usually I wouldn’t bother with a goal line in a semi-final but given the personnel on show here I just can’t ignore a 1.75 line in this one.
