2019 Africa Cup of Nations – Sunday 23rd June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

There are three more matches in the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday as the tournament continues to power on at a decent lick. After wins for Egypt and Nigeria already in the competition three more African powerhouses get to show their hand on Sunday.

On the face of it there appears to be three mismatches on the card but to be fair to the minnows they are all here on merit and will be determined to show they can compete at this level so this might be a more intriguing day than it promises to be.

Morocco vs Namibia (15.30)

A busy day in the tournament begins with the first match from Group D as our pre-tournament outright pick Morocco get their campaign underway when they go up against the relative minnows of Namibia.

If Morocco are going to announce themselves as title challengers this year this is a match they need to be looking at winning so all eyes will be on Hakim Ziyech and co to see what they can deliver. Namibia came through qualifying courtesy of a better head-to-head record over Mozambique so they were one of the least convincing qualifiers which has to be recognised. Morocco are my outright bet and I’m happy to ride that punt for an interest here.

Senegal vs Tanzania (18.00)

The second match of the day sees a tasty looking Group C getting underway when another of the fancied sides get their tournament started when Senegal take on Tanzania in a match that they too are expected to dominate.

Senegal on paper look one of the strongest sides in the tournament if not the actual strongest so all eyes will be on them here to see how they get on and how they look. With a raft of Premier League stars and players who ply their trade in the better leagues around Europe they will be expected to look good. Apart from Ryan Nyambe of Blackburn Rovers the majority of this Tanzania squad are African based so this feels like a David against Goliath type of contest.

I know taking big handicaps on opening games in tournaments is the work of the devil but if there is going to be a comfortable win for a favourite in this event this could be it. I’m a little surprised Senegal are only giving up 1.25 goals here and even though they don’t have Sadio Mane I still think they’ll have enough to cover that.

Algeria vs Kenya (21.00)

The final match of the three on the third day of action in the tournament sees the dark horses of Algeria getting their competition going when they face a side who could be anything in many ways in Kenya.

Kenya came through qualifying as runners up to Ghana but their group became a bit of a nonsense when Sierra Leone were chucked out so we can’t really use that as much of a guide. One thing we can deduct from it though is that they only conceded one goal in four matches – two against Ghana. Victor Wanyama is their standout man but they have a few players based in Europe and Asia so we should expect them to be competitive. Algeria look very strong on paper and I’m expecting them to get the job done here but having backed them to win the group and their centre-forward to be top scorer I’ve enough betting interests to keep me going here.
