2019 Africa Cup of Nations – Sunday 7th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The third day of four in the round of 16 matches in the Africa Cup of Nations takes place on Sunday as four more teams look to make it through to the quarter finals of the competition, on a day where nothing would be a surprise based on what we’ve seen so far.

We’ve already seen the hosts Egypt, defending champions Cameroon and dangerous side Morocco fall in this round and so the only thing to expect is another day of competitive action and drama in droves!

Madagascar vs DR Congo (17.00)

The first match of the day sees two sides probably not expected to be in this contest when the tournament set out in action as Madagascar takes on DR Congo for a place in the last eight of the extended competition.

In saying that, there were a few judges keen on the chances of Madagascar and it hasn’t been hard to see why so far in the competition. They won their group courtesy of a fine win over Nigeria in their final group match and that isn’t looking too bad right now. DR Congo looked a bit of a shambles in the early stages of this tournament but a thrashing of Zimbabwe in their last outing got them into this stage and makes them potentially competitive.

I fancy we might see a close match here. Madagascar are certainly going to be competitive but that win last time out means we might see the best of DR Congo here. I wouldn’t be surprised if we need extra time and beyond to settle this one but I there is enough juice in the Asian lines to take Madagascar as the potentially likelier winners if this is settled in 90 minutes.

Algeria vs Guinea (20.00)

The second half of the double header of action on Sunday will see Algeria look to avoid being the latest big name to be sent packing from this tournament when they take on a Guinea side who have flattered to deceive in this tournament a touch.

I thought Guinea were second best in their match against Madagascar to start proceedings and while they saw off Burundi to come through their section I think they are going to have to step it up here to see off an Algerian side who have won all three matches so far but who have shaped as though they still have plenty more to give this competition, which is the perfect position to be in.

I know we’ve seen some big names come up short already in this round but one of them, Morocco, should have won while Egypt felt the weight of expectation I fancy. I don’t believe there is anything more to it than that so I’m still happy enough to take Algeria here. They were my dark horses for the tournament when it began and they are probably stronger fancies than that now. They should have too much here.
