2019 Africa Cup of Nations – Wednesday 10th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

It is not just Wimbledon where there is sporting quarter final action on Wednesday as the last eight in the Africa Cup of Nations gets underway at the same time, when the first two matches in the round are played out.

Wednesday sees Senegal and Nigeria looking to progress to what would be a blockbuster semi-final but Benin and South Africa are unlikely to roll over tamely and let that happen so there is plenty of intrigue on show here.

Senegal vs Benin (17.00)

The opening quarter final sees the team that many think are the favourites to win the title from here in Senegal, taking on possibly the outsiders of those who are remaining in the competition in the form of Benin.

Senegal have looked very good in this tournament it has to be said, while Benin could be forgiven for wondering what on earth they are still doing here having survived a late penalty miss from Morocco in the last round before defeating them on penalties. I’ve got to think the luck of the minnows runs out here and I expect Senegal to come through. Backing a side to win in this tournament and under 3.5 goals has been good to me and that is how I’ll play this one.

Nigeria vs South Africa (20.00)

The second quarter final sees Nigeria looking to make it back into the last four of the tournament when they take on probably the most hated side in Egypt right now in South Africa after they took out the hosts in the previous round.

When Nigeria have qualified for this tournament since 1982 they have made the semi-finals on all but one occasion and are huge favourites to get back there again but South Africa have already pulled off one deserved shock and will fancy doing that again and making it into the semis themselves for the first time since 2000.

I think this one will be a bit closer than the odds suggest here and I fancy South Africa can get a result in one way or another. I say that because I suspect Nigeria are slightly overrated on the back of a win over a poor Cameroon side which they were in danger of messing right up at one stage. South Africa showed against Egypt that they can be tight at the back and offer something on the counter. I believe they can force extra time if not more.
