2019 ATP Cincinnati: Western & Southern Open Tennis Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The second round of the ATP Cincinnati tournament concludes out in America on Wednesday when the latest Masters 1000 event continues at quite some pace with a whole bunch of matches, as the build up to the US Open continues.

We saw wins for Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev among others on Tuesday and with another card full of great players on Wednesday we should not be short of quality throughout the fourth day.

Tuesday Recap

Not only were there wins for Federer, Madvedev and Djokovic but they all won in straight sets while the likes of Diego Schwartzman, Roberto Bautista Agut, Denis Shapovalov and Pablo Carreno Busta. Stan Wawrinka also came through an epic encounter. There was also three set wins for David Goffin and Andrey Rublev among others.

Unfortunately it was a nightmare betting day for us with Goffin beating Fritz even though the American was much the better player for long periods and then despite serving for the first set and having numerous set points in the tiebreak, Gael Monfils also went down in straight sets to Frances Tiafoe. If that wasn’t bad enough our other outright bet, Dominic Thiem, pulled out with illness which was made all the more annoying by the fact the draw has already opened up for him.

Center Court

There are a couple of women’s matches on the main stadium court before the men appear. When they do it will be the fifth seeded Alexander Zverev who is in action when he takes on the young rising star Miomir Kecmanovic in what is the only day session match on this court. There is a men’s match in the night session which looks a really juicy affair as Nick Kyrgios takes on Karen Khachanov for a spot in the last 16.

Grandstand

There is a lot more men’s action on the second court on Wednesday and it all begins with a Japanese clash between Kei Nishikori and Yoshihito Nishioka before one of the best young players in the game takes to the court as Stefanos Tsitsipas meets Jan-Lennard Struff. That is it as far as the day session is concerned but in the evening there is one match which takes place and it is between the American player Frances Tiafoe and the ultra-consistent Roberto Bautista Agut.

Stadium 3

There are a couple of men’s matches on this court with the first of them seeing the Australian star Alex de Minaur taking on the American wildcard Reilly Opelka and then after a women’s match there is another good looking game from the men’s draw as Stan Wawrinka takes on the Russian qualifier Andrey Rublev in a match which could open up a strong opportunity for the winner.

Best of the Rest

Daniil Medvedev is back in action on one of the outside courts on Wednesday when he faces the mercurial Benoit Paire. Four other leading names are on show on the same court in David Goffin, Guido Pella, Lucas Pouille and Denis Shapovalov while Andy Murray’s conqueror Richard Gasquet is another who is in action on the wider parts of the complex. Diego Schwartzman is also in singles action.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets across the course of the day. I took David Goffin on in Tuesday’s play and he didn’t impress me at all, even though he came out on top. He won fewer points than Taylor Fritz and his serve was mixed at best. With that in mind, I’ve got to think he is ripe to be taken on once again with a man who actually beat him in Montreal last week in Guido Pella. Pella is an awkward player to play with his serve but we saw at Wimbledon that the rest of his game is in decent order too. I don’t think it is going to take a whole lot for the Argentine to win this one and at 6/4 he is well worth a bet.

The other bet that I like is for over 23.5 games when Nick Kyrgios meets Karen Khachanov in the late match on Wednesday. Kyrgios showed his excellent form when he won Washington a couple of weeks ago and he has a wonderful record on serve in this tournament, which is probably to be expected given that these courts are quicker than most going around. Khachanov can hold his own on the serve department so we should be in for a monster match here where tiebreaks could rule the roost. Whether it is by two tiebreaks or three sets I expect the over to land relatively safely here.
