2019 ATP Indian Wells BNP Paribas Open Tennis – Day 1 Betting Preview

The BNP Paribas Open begins with a series of first round matches across the complex in Indian Wells as the tournament gets underway on Thursday. We have to wait until later in the week for the star names to come out to play but there are some competitive matches on the card on the first day of action.

British eyes will be focused on the main arena as Cameron Norrie gets his campaign underway while the likes of Sam Querrey, Benoit Paire and Damir Dzumhur also take to the courts to start their tournament.

Stadium 1

Cameron Norrie is actually given the honour of starting up the tournament on the main court. He goes up against the Canadian wildcard Felix Auger-Aliassime and then after a women’s match the American player Sam Querrey is on show. He meets the Italian player Matteo Berrettini and then once another WTA match is concluded another big serving American rising star is in action when Reilly Opelka goes up against Leonardo Mayer.

Stadium 2

It is the women who get this court up and running but then comes arguably the pick of the opening day matches when Pierre-Hugues Herbert takes on Philipp Kohlschreiber. There is only one more men’s match mixed in with all the women’s encounters on this court and that sees Bradley Klahn looking for a win in front of a home crowd when he plays the Tunisian player Malek Jaziri for a place in the second round.

Stadium 3

We have to wait a while for the men’s action to start over on Stadium 3 but when it does Denis Kudla will take on Yoshihito Nishioka before the enigmatic Benoit Paire will go up against Prajnesh Gunneswaran, the Indian qualifier. The last match on this court sees the Australian man John Millman going up against Jan-Lennard Struff to round off a busy day.

Best of the Rest

Mischa Zverev meets Martin Klizan in one of the many matches taking place out on the outside courts while Damir Dzumhur and Albert Ramos-Vinolas will look to kick a strong run of form when they do battle. Federico Delbonis, Ivo Karlovic, Jeremy Chardy and Maximilian Marterer are among the better players on show around the grounds on the first day of the tournament.

Betting

I’ll begin with a pretty quiet time of it with just the one bet. That comes in the form of the match between two form men in John Millman and Jan-Lennard Struff. Both have displayed good form over the course of 2019 so far and should be coming into this tournament hitting the ball well and looking to progress in the tournament.

Millman is one of those players who seems to forever be involved in a right battle in his matches and Struff has toughed it out in recent times too so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this ends up going to three sets. Whether it is three sets or two close ones I think the 22.5 game line is on the low side and as such I’m happy to begin the week with the over.
