2019 BDO World Championship – Day 4 Betting Preview

The first round of the men’s BDO World Championship tournament concludes at the Lakeside Country Club on Tuesday with the women’s event also continuing on the fourth day of action in Frimley Green.

We’ve seen some leading players on the stage already this week and then on Tuesday two of the very best come out to play when Glen Durrant begins his title defence and former winner Scott Mitchell opens his campaign.

Afternoon Session

We kick off the afternoon with one of the stories of 2018 in many ways. Dave Parletti spent around a month of it in hospital but still delivered enough consistency to qualify here as a seeded player and his reward for that is a first round clash against the Polish preliminary round winner Krzysztof Kcuik before Scott Mitchell takes to the stage to face Oliver Ferenc for a place in the second round.

Our one remaining women’s outright pick Aileen de Graaf begins her quest for a first world title in the third match of the afternoon on Tuesday when she faces the experienced Paula Jacklin before the afternoon is concluded with Ross Montgomery facing Scott Baker in a first round match which has all the potential to be a tight battle.

Evening Session

The defending champion Glen Durrant begins his quest for a third successive Lakeside title when he goes up against Mark McGrath, who came through against the injured Adam Smith-Neale in the preliminary round. We then head back to the women’s event to see the world number one Lorraine Winstanley in first round action. She takes on the dangerous Casey Gallagher for a place in the quarter final.

The Dutch seeded star Chris Landman is the penultimate seed to get his title campaign underway in the second to last first round match. He plays the heavy scoring and hugely dangerous Kyle McKinstry of Northern Ireland before Gary Robson begins another World Championship tilt when he takes on David Cameron in the last tie of the opening round.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the day on Tuesday. In the final match of the afternoon I’m expecting a close match between two men who know all about the big stage when Ross Montgomery goes up against Scott Baker. Baker is one of the heavier scorers on the BDO scene and so his result or otherwise in this match will depend on how he hits the doubles. It wouldn’t be a Ross Montgomery match at Lakeside if it didn’t go long and turn into a battle so I’m expecting to have enough legs to get more than 7.5 180s here.

In the final match of the day I fancy that Gary Robson could be there for the taking. His record in this tournament is incredibly poor in recent times with just two wins in his last six visits to the Lakeside and so he must be vulnerable to a David Cameron who has already seen off a seasoned campaign in Andy Hamilton and now faces another player who is under all kinds of pressure in Robson. I’m happy enough to be on the Canadian at odds against. He played well against Hamilton and will probably improve for having had the match. He can take out ‘Big Robbo’.
