2019 BDO World Championship – Day 7 Betting Preview

It is another busy day of action at the BDO World Championship on Friday as the four men’s quarter finals and the two ladies semi-finals take place across the two sessions of play inside the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green.

All 12 players left in the respective tournaments will be on the stage at some point on Friday which should make for an interesting and titanic day of darts as spots in the weekend action are up for grabs.

Afternoon Session

The action begins with the first of the men’s quarter finals as the German star Michael Unterbuchner bids for a place in a second successive semi-final when he goes up against the Dutch player Willem Mandigers before Mikuru Suzuki faces Maria O’Brien in the opening semi-final in the women’s competition.

The final match of the afternoon sees the former champion Scott Waites looking to make the last four once again. He takes on a Conan Whitehead who is in his first quarter final at this level but who stormed past the top seed Mark McGeeney in the previous round and shouldn’t be underestimated as a result.

Evening Session

It is the second women’s semi-final which gets the action underway as pairs partners Anastasia Dobromyslova and Lorraine Winstanley meet for a place in the final on Saturday with the winner facing either Mikuru Suzuki or Maria O’Brien for the title.

Defending men’s champion Glen Durrant will then look to make it into the semi-final when he takes on Kyle McKinstry before the pick of the matches on Friday as Jim Williams faces the former winner Scott Mitchell in a clash of two of the BDO heavyweight players in what has all the hallmarks of providing an epic conclusion to the day.

Betting

I think the opening quarter final between Michael Unterbuchner and Willem Mandigers has all the hallmarks of being quite a close match. Mandigers hasn’t been at this level before but he got better the longer the previous round went on while Unterbuchner loves a scrap. Both men should play well for periods here and that makes me think that the odds against on over 7.5 sets is well worth taking. This one could go all the way.

There has been a lot to like about Maria O’Brien this week and I think she can see off Mikuru Suzuki in the first semi-final. O’Brien has been quite ruthless and looks to be on something of a mission over the course of this tournament. Suzuki had a great day against Ashton but looked very ordinary in her quarter final. If she plays like that here she’ll get badly beaten. I’d have O’Brien as the favourite here so I’m happy to take her at 10/11.

I think the bookmakers have the final match of the night the wrong way around odds wise. Jim Williams is the outsider at odds against but he should be the favourite in my eyes. He has been very good this week whereas Mitchell could barely buy a score over a ton in his second round victory. Williams has improved beyond belief this year and we saw him trouble Peter Wright and beat Max Hopp in the Grand Slam. He averaged over 100 in that win and anything up towards that will get him through a tight match but one where I believe the Welshman is the favourite.
