2019 BDO World Darts Championship – Day 3 Betting Preview

The preliminary round concludes and the first round of the two singles tournaments continues on the third day of action in the BDO World Championship on Monday with two more sessions of play taking place at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green.

We’ve seen some wonderful matches and excellent performances so far in the competition and with some of the bigger names in the event beginning to grace the stage on Monday, the scene is set for another excellent day of arrers.

Afternoon Session

It is men’s matches all the way in the afternoon session on Monday when the preliminary round of the competition concludes. First onto the stage is the former PDC World Championship finalist Andy Hamilton who makes his Lakeside debut when he faces regular visitor and Canadian qualifier David Cameron for the right to face Gary Robson in the first round.

Scott Mitchell will find out his first round opponent in the second match of the afternoon when the Serbian qualifier Oliver Ferenc faces the Scottish player Ryan Hogarth in the last of the preliminary matches. The afternoon concludes with the main draw match between Willem Mandigers and Paul Hogan, who saw off Wes Newton on Saturday evening.

Evening Session

The semi-finalist of 12 months ago, Michael Unterbuchner, is first up in the evening session when he takes on the capable Australian player Justin Thompson before the women’s tournament continues as Anastasia Dobromyslova competes in her second World Championship in as many months after appearing in the PDC tournament in December. She faces Laura Turner for a spot in the quarter final.

The third seed, Jim Williams is up for the first time this week in the penultimate match of the day. He takes on Roger Janssen, who came through in the preliminary round on Sunday evening before a clash of the youngster’s rounds off the day when Daniel Day plays the extremely talented Dean Reynolds, who is threatening to fail to make the most of his talent.

Betting

I’ll take two throughout the course of Monday beginning in the afternoon where I like the idea of Paul Hogan to have a fair bit spare when he comes through against Willem Mandigers. We saw in the PDC version of the World Championship that a match on the stage is an ideal preparation for the next one and Hogan is the man to have had that advantage. Although he didn’t win, Nigel Heydon has already reinforced that form guide in his match with Richard Veenstra. Mandigers is one of those tidy BDO players but who lacks an extra gear and so if Hogan is proficient on his doubles he should come through here. He got the rust out of his system against Wes Newton and can come through here by the same scoreline at the very worst.

It will be a big shame if Dean Reynolds doesn’t make the most of his talent but whether he does or he doesn’t, I think Daniel Day is the safer play against him at odds against. I say that because he has caught fire on the BDO circuit in the last 4-5 months or so. He won the Swedish Open in August seeing off some good opponents such as Jim Williams, Ross Montgomery and Wayne Warren and he has enjoyed plenty of pairs success since then. Reynolds has been stone cold in 2018 despite entering a number of tournaments. There is a chance that the big stage will bring the best out of Reynolds but after the year he’s had if he goes behind early the belief could wane quickly. I’ll take the seeded man here.
