The first round of the China Championship comes to a close on Tuesday out in Guangzhou with those who were not involved in the main draw on Monday will play their opening match in it on another good looking day of action.
The big names on show on Monday all progressed safely enough so the gauntlet has been laid down to the likes of Neil Robertson, Judd Trump, Ding Junhui and Shaun Murphy to follow in their footsteps on Tuesday.
Morning Session
It is a loaded session up first in Guangzhou on Tuesday with the defending champion Mark Selby occupying one of the TV tables. Selby faces the home man Lu Ning for a place in the last 32 of the competition while on the other TV table the former world champion Neil Robertson will be taking centre stage. He meets the Chinese amateur player Zhao Jianbo with Indian Open winner Matt Selt awaiting the winner.
Six matches take place on the outside tables where the clash between Marco Fu and Dave Gilbert is probably the pick of them although Anthony McGill against Michael Holt should be a good one too. Tom Ford meets Hossein Vafaei in another match. Mark Allen has a good recent record in China and he’ll go up against Anthony Hamilton while the other two matches sees the former champion Luca Brecel facing Tian Pengfei and Ricky Walden meeting Luo Honghao.
Afternoon Session
There are plenty of big names out on show in the second session of the day as well, with the biggest of them all in this part of the world on one of the TV tables when Ding Junhui takes on the man who could replace him as China’s number one in time, Zhao Xintong. The other TV table will have the world champion Judd Trump on it. He takes on Mike Dunn for a place in the last 32 of the Chinese event.
There is a real tasty looking match on one of the outside tables as Yuan Sijun looks to progress in his home tournament when he meets Shaun Murphy while elsewhere Kyren Wilson meets Robbie Williams in another match. Jack Lisowski is on show in this session too. He meets Daniel Wells while Hammad Miah takes on Joe Perry and Harvey Chandler faces Stephen Maguire. The other match is a good looking clash between two Asian players in Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Zhou Yuelong.
Betting
I’ll go for two on Tuesday in the hope of getting better luck than we had on Monday where we were denied a couple of bets by a frame each. In the morning session I think the match that Tom Ford had in the conditions on Monday can serve him well against Hossein Vafaei. I like Vafaei and I’m a big fan of his but with his visa issues and what not he hasn’t played a whole lot of cricket this season and is yet to play this week. Ford is in better touch and rhythm and played well enough in his held over game on Monday to suggest he can come through here.
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh has a 3-0 career record against Zhou Yuelong and I fancy that is something that can continue in the second session on Tuesday. I don’t think the record is a fluke. Un-Nooh puts a real pressure on the opponent’s safety game because he is so good at getting in from distance and scoring heavily and the safety and tactical side of things is the clear weakness for Yuelong at the minute. I’m sure he’ll get it right eventually but I do think it leaves him there for the taking against the classy Thai. I really hope Un-Nooh kicks on this season because he’s great for the game. I think he can start that by winning here.
