2019 DP World Tour Championship Golf – Final Round Tips and Betting Preview

The final round of the European Tour season takes place on the Earth Course over at the Jumeirah Golf Estate out in Dubai on Sunday when the DP World Tour Championship draws to a close with a potentially exciting finale ahead of us.

We have some of the leading names in Europe in position to challenge for the massive first prize over the course of the day as well as one or two surprise packages who could change their life forever, so this Sunday is beautifully set up.

Round 3 Recap

After three rounds of the tournament we have joint leaders in the form of the overnight leader Mike Lorenzo-Vera and Jon Rahm. They both sit on 15 under par with 18 holes to play, two ahead of their closest challenger Rory McIlroy and four clear of the next player in Tommy Fleetwood, who will be eyeing up a second title in as many weeks in this final round. Thomas Pieters is 10 under the scorecard and he is the only other player within five of the lead.

It was finally a good day for us in the betting department as well because our Saturday two ball bet came in safely as The Open champion Shane Lowry comfortably saw off Bernd Wiesberger to get us somewhere near level for the week for the match bets, giving us a shot at coming away from the tournament with a profit from them.

Sunday Betting

We only really have the outright market to go on where Jon Rahm is an odds on favourite. I can’t say that I disagree with that if I’m honest but I am wary of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood being in close proximity I have to say. While I think Rahm is a good thing, those two knocking on the door ensures this is anything but a done deal.

The only problem with that is the bookmakers are well aware that is the case and they have priced up those three and indeed Lorenzo-Vera accordingly so there isn’t really anything that stands out here. I’ve got a couple of men sniffing around for a place in Tom Lewis and Guido Migliozzi so hopefully they can deliver something and provide some sort of a return.

Sunday 2 Balls

Once again the field are out in two balls on Sunday and Mke Lorenzo-Vera and Jon Rahm and they go out at 08.00 GMT while the duo of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood will go onto the golf course 10 minutes prior to that. One group which might get a decent following much earlier in the morning is the one between the current Race to Dubai leader Bernd Wiesberger and the former Masters champion Patrick Reed which goes off at 5.45 GMT. There is one bet I like the look of on Sunday.

Marcus Kinhult vs Thomas Pieters

Match tees off at 07.40 GMT

That comes in the third last group out onto the golf course as the Swedish winner of the British Masters, Marcus Kinhult, takes on the Belgian star Thomas Pieters over the final round of the European Tour season.

Kinhult has shown some nice stuff in recent times but I’m expecting him to be beaten by the Czech Masters winner here. Pieters has a dream long game which is made for courses like this one and he is slowly warming up his putter which is important. Pieters is a shot better than his playing partner for the week and generally ranks in the key statistics a little better than Kinhult. Kinhult is on for a big cheque this week and from six behind he might play a little defensive and play for the cash so I expect Pieters to outscore him here.
