2019 French Open Tennis – Day 6 Betting Preview

We have reached the third round of the French Open in the singles draws which means on Friday seeded players can meet each other for the first time in the tournament and that should lead to the level of action going up a notch.

By and large the truly big names have made it through in the men’s draw so the next few days will see the better matches coming along and then there are some underrated games coming along from the women.

Day 5 Recap

Once again there were easy wins for Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams on Thursday while Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka came through in deciding sets. Juan Martin del Potro needed to go the distance while Dominic Thiem and Fabio Fognini came through in four. We lost home hopeful Caroline Garcia in the women’s draw too.

We had a winner and a loser from the two bets on concluded on Thursday. Amanda Anisimova cruised to victory to bring the bet on her in but sadly Mikael Ymer got going too late and couldn’t snatch the third set tiebreak which would have brought the over in across that game. Lucas Pouille looks up against it in the other bet when darkness fell.

Philippe Chatrier Stadium

Our main outright bet Karolina Pliskova opens up the show on the main court on Friday when she takes on Petra Martic. Lucas Pouille and Martin Klizan then come along to conclude their match before a crackerjack of a women’s match when the former champion Garbine Muguruza takes on Elina Svitolina. They are followed by one of the best men’s matches of the round as David Goffin takes on Rafael Nadal before Stefanos Tsitsipas goes up against Filip Krajinovic to round off a great looking day on the main court.

Suzanne Lenglen Court

A competitive affair gets us underway on the second court when Elise Mertens takes on Anastasija Sevastova before Roger Federer makes a surprise appearance in that part of the complex. He faces Casper Ruud and then the 2018 finalist Sloane Stephens goes up against Pauline Hercog before two seasoned campaigners collide to round off the action when Stan Wawrinka looks to move towards a second Roland Garros title when he meets the capable and competent Grigor Dimitrov.

Simonne Mathieu Court

Marketa Vondrousova will look to continue her big time breakthrough when she takes on Carla Suarez Navarro before Benoit Paire looks to move into the second week of the tournament when he takes on Pablo Carreno Busta and then another Frenchman looks to do the same thing when Nicolas Mahut faces Leonardo Mayer. The action comes to a close on this court when Jo Konta goes up against Viktoria Kumova for her own place in the second week.

Best of the Rest

There aren’t so many singles matches dotted about the place now but of those that are on the outside courts we have Kei Nishikori, Belinda Bencic and Donna Vekic on show in the Bullring while Madison Keys and Kaia Kanepi are a couple of bigger name women also taking to the outer courts looking to seal their progression in the event.

Men’s Betting

It is largely slim pickings in the men’s draw on Friday such is the dominance of the big three in what is just eight matches on the card and a couple of injury issues involved in others. I was tempted to get with Filip Krajinovic in some way but the prices don’t really justify it so in the end I’ll take a punt that Benoit Paire continues his good run.

We are getting towards the point where the mercurial and mad Frenchman will jack it in but this is a good chance to see off a Pablo Carreno Busta who never truly convinces me on this surface anyway and who isn’t long back from a pretty strong injury so he might be feeling his legs a little bit. Paire has been complaining of a back issue in recent weeks but he won’t get to the second week in Paris too often so hopefully adrenalin and motivation keeps him on the straight and narrow. Paire has won their last three meetings so odds against the nutty one will do me.

Women’s Betting

There is only going to be the one bet for me in the women’s draw as well. I was hoping to get on Vondrousova and Pliskova in some way but they are both a little bit on the short side which isn’t exactly ideal and that means their handicap lines are a shade on the large side so I’ll just take one in the main game of the day.

Bookmakers have the match between Garbine Muguruza and Elina Svitolina a pick ‘em match but I don’t see it that way. I’ve been impressed with the Spaniard in this tournament whereas I thought Svitolina was given her first round match by Venus who was pony in the last five games and then she had a walkover in the second round. Muguruza wasn’t on court long enough in the second round to be physically disadvantaged. The longer this tournament has gone on the better she has looked. She knows how to go course and distance in majors and here in particular. I’m with her in this one.
