2019 German Darts Championship – Last 32 Betting Preview

As always with the European Tour events the seeded players come into the fray on the Saturday action and that is the case with the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim this weekend, where the stars of the game are seen for the first time.

That means that the big crowds out in Germany get to see the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Rob Cross and James Wade among others all take to the stage as the entire last 32 is played out across two sessions.

Afternoon Session

That action gets going with a tight looking battle between Darren Webster and Luke Humphries and then comes a potentially cracking contest as the number two seed Ian White goes up against one of the players of the year thus far in Jamie Hughes. James Wade is on show early on Saturday when he takes on Boris Koltsov in the third match of the afternoon before Jonny Clayton meets Simon Stevenson to take us into the interval.

After the break, when play resumes Adrian Lewis will meet Kevin Knopf and then there is an all-European battle between Jermaine Wattimena and Steffen Siepmann before the afternoon gets rounded off with Gerwyn Price taking on the former world champion Mark Dudbridge and James Wilson faces off with Mario Robbe.

Evening Session

Daryl Gurney has the honour of leading the evening session away on Saturday when he goes up against Andy Boulton and then the UK Open champion is back on the big stage as Nathan Aspinall faces the dangerous Joe Cullen. Former world champion Rob Cross is third up in the evening to face Ron Meulenkamp with Peter Wright taking us into the break and he takes on Andrew Gilding who has done well to get this far.

The final four matches of the night all look very tasty indeed. Stephen Bunting is the first seed on show but Dimitri Van den Bergh won’t be worried about not being seeded. He takes on the Bullet before a clash in styles appears as Mensur Suljovic faces Ricky Evans. Michael van Gerwen is on stage in the penultimate match of the day to take on Keegan Brown with the action concluding as Dave Chisnall meets Mervyn King.

Betting

I like two bets over the course of the day here with the first of them coming in the afternoon where I expect Jamie Hughes to see off Ian White again. These two have met twice in 2019 and Hughes has won on both occasions but that doesn’t surprise me given the levels of some of the averages the Black Country man has been hitting this term. We all know White is not comfortable on the big stages so he has to be taken on against most players at the minute but especially one as good, as confident and as heavy scoring as Jamie Hughes.

While I appreciate that Dave Chisnall has been in amazing form on the floor in 2019, I can’t help but feel that Mervyn King is a little overpriced to beat him in the final match of the night. We all know King is a relentless practicer who likes plenty of time to prepare and he’ll have that here so I’m expecting a big showing from the King. Chisnall is a form horse for sure, but can you ever truly trust him on the big stage? I wouldn’t be shocked if Chisnall wins this but for me King is more than a shade of value having had a match on the stage already.
