2019 German Darts Grand Prix – Last 16 Betting Preview

The third European Tour event of the season concludes on Monday when the latter stages of the German Darts Grand Prix take place on the usual busy finale to the tournament. All on eyes will be on Michael van Gerwen out in Munich to see if he can defend his title.

As always with the final day of these events the last 16 takes place in the afternoon session with the evening session seeing the quarter finals onwards being played out. Once again time restrictions will deny us the chance of previewing the final stages but we can look at the last 16.

First Four Matches

The opening match of the afternoon is one of the more appealing ones as Michael van Gerwen takes on Stephen Bunting before Ricky Evans goes up against Ted Evetts. The third match of the session is very much the pick of the last 16 matches where Rob Cross and Daryl Gurney could look at the draw and regret their luck that they meet as early as this in the event. The last match before the halfway mark in the afternoon sees Mensur Suljovic taking on Dave Chisnall in another juicy looking encounter.

Later Four Matches

The second half of the afternoon doesn’t carry the same weight of names as the first half given all the shocks that took place on Sunday so everyone has a chance of going deep. Karel Sedlacek takes on Darren Webster in the first game after the break before Kim Huybrechts meets Max Hopp in a huge match for both men. The penultimate game of the afternoon sees Ritchie Edhouse playing Joe Cullen before the final match of the round sees Ross Smith taking on Simon Whitlock.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the afternoon with Dave Chisnall the first one at odds against. To be fair Mensur Suljovic has a decent record in these tournaments but when someone averages 108+ in the previous round you have to take notice even if this is a different day. It isn’t like Chisnall has been in poor form this year. He has already won two titles and been in a televised semi-final. I think this should be a belting match but if Chisnall is in the same form as he was in on Sunday then he’ll take a lot of beating here.

Kim Huybrechts had a brilliant win over James Wade on Sunday afternoon and he needs to follow that up when he takes on Max Hopp on Monday. Hopp will have the crowd behind him but Huybrechts is experienced enough to deal with that. It wasn’t like the crowd was a massive help to the German on Sunday as although he won, he could only average 90.43 so he didn’t pull up any trees. Huybrechts showed good poise to break throw in the deciding leg against Wade and he has a massive chance to go deep this weekend now. At even money he’s the bet here.
