2019 Gibraltar Darts Trophy – Last 16 Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of the Gibraltar Darts Trophy on Sunday and not just the last day of this tournament but the conclusion of the qualifying system for the European Championship later in the season so it is a big day of action.

The last 16 takes place in the afternoon and then the remainder of the event will take place in the evening session. As ever we won’t be able to preview the later stages but we can get stuck into the last 16.

First Four Matches

The final day gets underway with Michael van Gerwen taking on Nathan Aspinall in a good looking match and the high quality encounters keep coming from there. The tie of the round follows them as Peter Wright meets Mensur Suljovic in a cracking last 16 clash before James Wade takes on Kim Huybrechts. Dave Chisnall is given the task of leading the session into the break when he takes on Jermaine Wattimena in what will be a quick fire match.

Later Four Matches

Ian White has had an excellent European Tour campaign and he will continue that coming out of the break when he takes on Michael Smith who was awful on Saturday but still eased through. Krzysztof Ratajski meets our tournament pick Joe Cullen before we finish off with two more high class looking matches. Daryl Gurney will meet Glen Durrant while the last game of the afternoon sees Gerwyn Price taking on Rob Cross.

Betting

Two bets take my fancy here with Ian White expected to beat Michael Smith in my eyes. Smith is not playing well. How he wasn’t put out of his misery in the previous round I’ve no idea but I believe White will do that here. Danny Noppert had an absolute mare on his doubles on Saturday to allow Smith through but if White hits his then he should win here. White is used to going deep in these tournaments at the minute whereas Smith hasn’t had that success recently. I fancy White here.

Glen Durrant was excellent on Saturday night and that shouldn’t surprise anyone as with the run of top level tournaments on the horizon he will be looking to peak at around this time like all the great players do. He takes on Daryl Gurney here who himself is a top level operator but who sometimes can be a little flat in these sort of events. These two faced each other in the last of the European Tour events and Durrant won on that occasion. At even money he is a fair enough price to win this one too.
