2019 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 4 Tips and Betting Preview

The group stage of the Grand Slam of Darts concludes on Tuesday evening when the top four groups finish, which means that at the end of the night in Wolverhampton, we will know the complete line up for the knockout stages of the event.

We saw the likes of Rob Cross, Daryl Gurney and Peter Wright qualify on Monday night and on Tuesday players such as James Wade, Gerwyn Pirce and Gary Anderson will look to make their way into the last 16.

First Four Matches

The first two men to take to the stage are Ian White and Wesley Harms. White will qualify if he wins while Harms has to win 5-2 to have any chance of making it through. The following match concludes Group B as James Wade takes on Steve Lennon. The Irishman needs to better White’s result or beat Wade 5-1 to qualify. Three legs is enough for Wade to progress. Michael van Gerwen is up quite early in the piece when he takes on Ross Smith in a nothing game in terms of competitiveness, although the Dutchman will be keen to win after losing to him in the European Championship recently. We reach the halfway mark of the evening with Robert Thornton taking on Mikuru Suzuki with the Scot needing as big a win as possible.

Later Four Matches

Gerwyn Price and Dimitri Van den Bergh kick off the second half of the evening. Both men need to win this to guarantee going through although both will also qualify if Suzuki wins the previous match. We then move into Group D where William O’Connor will be looking to progress. He takes on Dave Parletti wanting as big a win as possible. Gary Anderson then takes on Darren Webster where the Scot knows he is through if he wins three legs while Webster has to match Lennon’s result. The final match of the night is pretty straight forward as Adrian Lewis goes up against Jim Williams in a straight knockout to qualify for the next stage.

Betting

This is a tricky night to bet on, not least because the only knockout match in it I’m effectively already involved in after taking Jim Williams to win Group A. He has to beat Adrian Lewis in the last game of the night to do just that so I’m basically on him to win that game so I’m not going to get involved in that again. There is one bet I like elsewhere on the card though.

That comes in the match between Michael van Gerwen and Ross Smith, the revenge mission for MVG. You generally don’t get much of a look in against MVG after you’ve beaten him last time out. I don’t think there will be any easing up by the Dutchman and the board chasing he has been doing recently may go out of the window here and he’ll focus on the 60 bed. Smith has nothing to lose here. He is out whatever happens so I’m expecting him to score well too and that leads me to thinking over 3.5 180s is a runner here. In that 6-5 win in Vienna, Smith hit five 180s. If he scores similar to that this line will get covered comfortably.
