2019 Grand Slam of Darts – Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

It is the final day of the Grand Slam of Darts on Sunday as four exceptionally good players battle it out for one of the biggest titles in the game when the semi-finals and final take place over in Wolverhampton.

We have four of the best in the world competing over the long format on what should be an excellent day of darts in the midlands. As ever with this thing we’ll preview the semi-finals but time restrictions will deny us the chance to cover the final so keep an eye on our Twitter feed (@kevshatsports) as any bets we do have will appear on there.

Peter Wright vs Glen Durrant

The opening semi-final of the tournament has all the hallmarks of being a cracker as Peter Wright takes on the BDO world champion Glen Durrant for a place in the final later in the day in Wolverhampton.

Wright has gone nicely about his business so far in this tournament and hasn’t really been in danger at any stage. Durrant on the other hand has had to battle through in nearly every match, but to his credit despite not always being at his best, he has make it to the last four where he will be eyeing up a first PDC major title.

These two are well matched so picking a winner is not as easy task. They met in the quarter final here a couple of years ago and Wright won 16-10. I don’t think Wright is in quite the same form as he was then and Durrant is much more comfortable being on a PDC stage. That could make the Teesider value but I’m going for a closer match than that one and taking over 27.5 legs. 16-12 or closer gets it done and that feels like it has every chance.

Michael van Gerwen vs Gerwyn Price

The second semi-fonal of the afternoon is nother tasty one on paper as the world champion and world number one Michael van Gerwen goes up against Gerwyn Price who is two wins away from successfully defending the title he won here last year.

You have to say van Gerwen has looked exceptional in this tournament so far and there is nothing to suggest he isn’t going to take it to Price here. He knows that he has never lost a match against Price but at the same time he’ll also know that the Welshman has started to get real close to him recently. Price will be able to use the fact he has got closer to MVG recently as confidence but he hasn’t played his best stuff this week yet. He’ll need to do it here that is for sure.

It would be a big surprise if MVG doesn’t win this but there is enough to suggest Price will keep him honest and be his toughest test yet so rather than chance a handicap or anything I’m happy to take over 15.5 180s. These two are pretty heavy scorers and in the recent Champions League semi-final they hit 13 180s in 21 legs. That ratio will should mean we need 26 legs to get over 15.5 180s. I think we’ll get those legs so I’ll take us to get that many 180s.
