As ever on a Sunday we have a double header in the Mzansi Super League with four sides in action all doing battle for some much needed points as the battle to chase down the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at the top of the table continues.
These double headers tend to produce good cricket and with the weather set to be absolutely perfect throughout the day, we should be in for another wonderful day of action in two of South Africa’s most iconic venues.
Cape Town Blitz vs Paarl Rocks (08.00)
The first match of the day sees the sides in second and third in the Mzansi Super League table meeting in Cape Town when the Cape Town Blitz will take on the Paarl Rocks, in a battle of two sides who are eyeing up the postseason.
These two sides have already met in Paarl when the Rocks dismissed the Blitz for 84 to win by 86 runs and they’ll be looking to back that win up here. Were they to win it is hard to see them doing so by such a margin but they are in good form are the Rocks and shouldn’t be discounted. The Blitz have been very up and down in this competition. When they’ve been good they have sizzled but when they’ve been bad they’ve been pretty ordinary. Given how tough the Blitz are to predict I’ll leave this one alone.
Jozi Stars vs Tshwane Spartans (12.00)
The second match of the Sunday double header comes from The Wanderers as the defending champions Jozi Stars are back in action when they go up against the Tshwane Spartans in a match the home side not just have to win but need to start getting bonus points as well.
It has been a season to forget for the Jozi Stars so far but they can still offer something to proceedings, but narrow wins are no longer good enough for them. Tshwane Spartans could really do with a couple of big wins themselves because the weather has absolutely decimated their campaign so far which is not very helpful.
I would imagine the Spartans are good things here but you can never quite tell on this ground because as I repeatedly mention this is a tiny ground and at altitude the ball flies miles so it is hard to defend. With that in mind over 12.5 sixes is my path to success in this match. Admittedly the Jozi Stars have been woeful with the bat recently but they have some big hitters and surely in his last game Chris Gayle will come good? AB de Villiers leads the hitting armoury for the Spartans. There’s too much hitting power not to get 13 sixes here.
