2019 Mzansi Super League – Sunday 8th December Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The final double header of the Mzansi Super League season takes place on Sunday and for three of the four sides involved it is a massive day as they conclude their regular season campaigns, with places in the top three very much up for grabs.

We know the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants will be involved in the playoffs and they can ensure they are in the final with a result of some kind on Sunday. The other spots are up for grabs and will go a long way to being decided on Sunday.

Paarl Rocks vs Nelson Mandela Bay Giants (08.00)

The day begins with the current top two battling it out where the winners will finish on top of the table as the Paarl Rocks meet the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at Boland Park. The Bay Giants are in the playoffs whatever happens here but Paarl will be relying on other results to secure their spot should they lose this one.

The big question ahead of this match is how badly will the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants be looking to win? A narrow loss will see them top the table and I always have great issues backing a team that don’t need to win. I’m not saying the Bay Giants won’t want to win but there could come a time where their target changes and that isn’t good. That said, I’ve never been a subscriber to the ‘must win, will win’ myth so I’ll leave the match alone.

I do think this will be a high scoring match though. Three of the four first innings scores at Boland Park this season have been 170 and above and the one that wasn’t belonged to the Jozi Stars who aren’t really relevant in the form stakes. Both these sides have been involved in high scoring matches and their first meeting would have been just that had the Bay Giants not collapsed. I don’t see that happening twice though so I like over 310.5 runs in this one.

Tshwane Spartans vs Cape Town Blitz (12.00)

The second match of the afternoon comes from Centurion where the Tshwane Spartans take on the Cape Town Blitz in a match which is absolutely huge for both teams. The equation here is simple for the Blitz. They have to win and get the bonus point to move into third place. A win for the Spartans and they are in the playoffs. Defeat without conceding the bonus point will need Jozi Stars to beat Durban on Tuesday for Tshwane to progress.

That is the mathematics for both teams but unfortunately for the pair of them the weather forecast is horrible and as such it looks like we are going to suffer a washout which isn’t what anyone wants. At the very best we’re going to get an interrupted match and that makes betting hard so sadly we’ll have to give this one a miss.
