2019 PDC World Darts Championship – Day 12 Evening Session Betting Preview

The third round of the PDC World Championship concludes and the last 16 begins on what looks like one of the tastiest nights of the darting year on Thursday evening as the tournament cracks on at quite some pace inside the Alexandra Palace.

Spots in the quarter finals are up for grabs in this session with three former champions looking to move a step closer to regaining the title. A couple of bright young guns are also on the schedule so there should be plenty to enjoy here.

Toni Alcinas vs Benito van de Pas

The evening begins with the last match of the third round as the Spanish star Toni Alcinas looks to build on his brilliant win over Peter Wright when he takes on the mercurial Benito van de Pas for whom this is a really big encounter.

It has been a terrible year for the Dutchman but if he can win this match and then see off Brendan Dolan in the last 16 he would double his money in the space of 48hrs and all of a sudden it would become an acceptable year. In any normal year Alcinas would be free rolling after dumping a huge seed out but with no major seeds left in the bottom quarter the Spaniard could easily be three wins away from a semi-final spot. I sense there will be a lot of nervy darts in this match and with that in mind this probably isn’t one to bet on.

Gary Anderson vs Chris Dobey

The first match of the last 16 sees two stablemates going at each other when Gary Anderson takes on Chris Dobey for a place in the quarter final where Dave Chisnall or Jamie Lewis will take on the winner.

We haven’t seen the best of Anderson in this tournament and he might still be thanking his lucky stars after he dodged a match dart against him in the previous round. Whether it is a potential meeting with MVG in the semi-final distracting Anderson or not I’m not overly sure but something is. Dobey has been excellent here in this tournament but this is his acid test. It isn’t just about his throwing game here. It is his mental one. He has to believe he can win this match but when playing your mentor that isn’t always easy.

I think Anderson will come through this. Although Dobey has won a match against Anderson he trails 4-1 on head to head and in those four matches Anderson has won 24-5 in legs. When you take in the occasion and the stage there is plenty in Anderson’s favourite but odds on to cover 2.5 sets doesn’t really interest me so I’ll sit this one out.

Michael van Gerwen vs Adrian Lewis

The pick of the last 16 matches is the final match of the evening when two former champions collide as Michael van Gerwen takes on Adrian Lewis in what has the potential to be a real blockbuster for a spot in the quarter finals.

MVG has been the best player in the tournament so far but despite that we’ve not seen him at his absolute best. Lewis hasn’t been at the form he showed when he won the competition a few years ago but he is getting towards his best game so we should be in for quite some treat in this encounter.

You would think van Gerwen will win this match but let’s not kid ourselves into thinking that this is not a banana skin for him as it very much is. I think the best way to tackle this match is to expect 180s. Even if there are only five sets the over 14.5 line requires just three 180s a set and the way these two score that is perfectly possible. If we see more than five sets this line could be smashed. I’ll take the over.
