Leicestershire vs Northamptonshire

The bottom two in the table meet in one of the matches on Saturday when Leicestershire host Northamptonshire at Grace Road. In fairness to Leicestershire they just haven’t got going in this tournament. They have leaked a lot of runs and the longer the event has gone on their batting has struggled.

It remains to be seen how Northants will go now that they are out of the competition but there was certainly no slacking off or anything against Yorkshire earlier in the week. They probably should have won that match but the rain coming when it did threw their bowling plans out of sync. That said they have a few injuries for this one which is a concern but not enough of one to put me off.

Leicestershire have batted well twice in this competition but aside from that they have been shelled out for 166 and 80 so when they get it wrong it goes seriously tits up. Northants have generally batted well in the main. They have gone over 300 twice and pushed 270 another couple of times. Had it not been for the rain they would be in a better position than they are. I think they can be chanced here.

Warwickshire vs Lancashire

In terms of size of the counties the pick of the matches on Saturday comes from Edgbaston where Warwickshire take on Lancashire but in reality the hosts have been quite disappointing this season so this should be a routine enough win for a Lancashire side who need that victory to keep things in their own hands.

Warwickshire just haven’t been able to put up the volume of runs needed in this tournament. Injuries to key batsmen haven’t helped but even so they’ve been poor. Lancashire have no real weakness in their ranks but they are priced accordingly and given that there is often a short boundary at Edgbaston there’s no need to go chasing short prices on the Red Rose outfit and come a cropper in a run chase when someone goes ballistic into it.

Worcestershire vs Yorkshire

Perhaps the most intriguing match of the day on Saturday comes from New Road where Worcestershire and Yorkshire do battle in what you could describe as a knockout match. Whoever loses here will see their hopes of progressing dashed so this is a big game.

Worcestershire have played the better cricket of the two thus far but there is a concern over the number of runs they have shipped in the tournament. Yorkshire were given a lifeline by the Northamptonshire rain the other day to keep their hopes alive but they need a right improvement on that effort here. I think Worcestershire will win this one but the price is no better than fair and given that they are my outright investment I’ll cheer them on for that accordingly.
