2019 Royal London One Day Cup – Thursday 2nd May Matches Betting Preview

The Royal London One Day Cup continues on Thursday with three matches in the competition which is heading towards the closing stages of the regular season. There are two games left for most sides so the stakes are high.

Unfortunately we have no TV coverage of any of these matches with the international summer beginning on Friday and Sky getting ready for that, but all three games are hosted by counties who offer live streams so we can watch the bulk of the action.

North Group

There is just the one match in the North Group on Thursday and it comes from Old Trafford where Lancashire and Derbyshire meet in a must win match for both sides. Whoever wins the match will move into second in the table while the loser will be relying on a plethora of other results in order to keep their qualifying hopes alive so this is one of the biggest games of the group so far.

South Group

Hampshire can all but qualify for the knockout stages of the competition on Thursday when they play host to Sussex at the Ageas Bowl. Victory for the defending champions will guarantee then a quarter final spot but they will be in pole position to win the group and bypass that round and go into the semi-final. Sussex will move level with Hampshire on points and have a game in hand if they can come out on top. There is a dead rubber at the Kia Oval where Surrey host Kent in a match between two sides who have one win in 11 matches between them.

Betting

The home sides are pretty warm favourites here and while I certainly see why in the case of Lancashire and Hampshire, I’m not so sure Surrey should be such heavy favourites. Admittedly opponents Kent haven’t won a game in the competition yet but there are no signs that they are throwing the towel in, and they might just get their reward for that over the course of the day.

Surrey are without a whole host of players for this match either through injury or England duty. Jason Roy, Tom Curran, Ben Foakes and Liam Plunkett are all with England, Sam Curran is at the IPL still while Jade Dernbach, Rikki Clarke, Scott Borthwick and Ollie Pope are all injured so this is largely a young or second string Surrey XI out here. Kent are missing Joe Denly and Sam Billings which isn’t a help but I still think they are overpriced. Surrey have been bowled out in four of their six matches and lost eight and nine wickets in the other two so they are not batting well. Kent’s first two efforts were disappointing with the bat but they have made 298 and 282 in their last two matches. Those totals could be winning ones here. I’ll take them at the price.
