2019 Scottish Open Snooker – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The first round of the Scottish Open concludes on Tuesday as we head deeper into the third leg of the Home Nations series inside the Emirates Arena in Glasgow. Once again we have three loaded sessions to enjoy over the course of the day.

The likes of Mark Selby, John Higgins and Mark Allen made it through to the second round on Monday and on Tuesday it will be the turn of Ronnie O’Sullivan, Ding Junhui and Judd Trump to follow them.

Morning Session

All the tables will be filled in this session with the UK Championship semi-finalist Yan Bingtao up on the TV table when he takes on the veteran Barry Pinches who is back in the big time. The streamed offering will see the former ranking event winner Ricky Walden facing up against Luo Honghao for a place in the second round. There are plenty of Chinese players on the outside tables with two of them meeting when Chen Feilong goes up against Zhang Jiankang. Kishan Hirani meets David Lilley while Bai Langning takes on Joe O’Connor. Kurt Maflin will look to build on a good run in York when he faces Alex Borg while Liam Highfield meets Jordan Brown. Mei Xi Wen goes up against Gary Thomson in the other match.

Three matches have been saved to make up a second little session in the morning. Tom Ford is one of those on show. The maximum man goes up against Lee Walker while Chinese players will be favourites in the other two games. They see Tian Pengfei meeting Oliver Lines and Xiao Guodong taking on Duane Jones for a place in the second round on Wednesday.

Afternoon Session

We have two sets of matches in the afternoon and on the TV table they begin with the new UK champion Ding Junhui. He takes on another man who impressed in York in Michael White, while on the streamed table Kyren Wilson faces something of a tough test when he goes up against the highly competent Hossein Vafaei. Some decent names are on the outside tables in this session too, with Jack Lisowski one of them. He meets Zhang Anda while Zhou Yuelong takes on Peter Ebdon. Alfie Burden will meet Soheil Vahedi and Alan McManus meets the dangerous Zhao Xintong.

The second set of matches sees Ronnie O’Sullivan beginning his quest for another ranking title on the TV table when he takes on Dominic Dale, who has already beaten him this season. Dave Gilbert is on the streamed table against Eden Sharav while on the outside tables Stuart Carrington faces Xu Si and Fraser Patrick plays Chang Bingyu. Two matches have been saved for further offerings on the main table. They have Stuart Bingham meeting Matthew Stevens and Matt Selt playing Li Hang.

Evening Session

It is all about the world champion Judd Trump first up on the TV table. He takes on the African player Amine Amiri for a place in the second round while on the streamed table there will be the chance to watch Jimmy Robertson taking on Harvey Chandler. The outside tables are full in this session as well with James Cahill going up against Sunny Akani on one, Jackson Page meeting Martin O’Donnell on another and Mark Davis taking on Sam Baird as well. Elsewhere, Chen Zifan plays Ben Woollaston while Noppon Saengkham meets his Thai idol James Wattana. Yuan Sijun plays Mitchell Mann in the other match.

Three games have been held over for second options on the main tables. Stephen Maguire is lined up to take on Jimmy White on the TV table while on the streamed one Shaun Murphy will meet Daniel Wells. Ali Carter is also in action to round off the day. He will be expected to be Fan Zhengyi to progress into the next round.

Betting

This is another tricky day of action with favourites I don’t really fancy but nobody of any note to really take them on with and in truth there are not all that many prices that jump out at me, but there is one bet I’ve found to have a go at in the hope of topping up the profit we picked up with Andrew Higginson winning on Monday.

It comes deep in the afternoon when Li Hang takes on Matt Selt in a match where I expect the Chinese player to come out on top. I say that because Selt’s form has nosedived. He hasn’t won a frame in his last two matches and while his opponents scored well against him on both occasions, that isn’t likely to do anything for confidence which can be fragile with him at the best of times. Hang had a good week in York, making it through to the last 16 and he was scoring insanely well for much of that tournament. His form has been getting better the longer the season has gone on whereas Selt’s is getting worse. I’ll take the one with the form and confidence which is Li Hang.
