2019 Shanghai Masters Snooker – Day 3 Tips and Betting Preview

We are down to two sessions per day in the Shanghai Masters from here on in and on Wednesday the second round of the tournament concludes as we get set to confirm the quarter final line up in the invitational tournament.

Ronnie O’Sullivan and Kyren Wilson powered into the last eight on Tuesday and on Wednesday the world champion Judd Trump, Six Reds winner John Higgins and a host of other star players will look to join them there.

Morning Session

The world champion Judd Trump comes out to play in the first session of the day. He takes on the man he could have ended up facing in the World Championship final in Dave Gilbert had it not been for John Higgins getting in the way. The other match in the morning session sees Mark Allen going up against the Chinese star Liang Wenbo in a match the crowds will be wanting to see the outsider come through in.

Afternoon Session

We have two great matches on show in this second session of the day. The pick of them is the one between the Australian star Neil Robertson and the local hero Ding Junhui which could so very easily go all the way if both play up to their potential. The other match on show in this session sees the winner of the Six Reds title last week in John Higgins going up against the man who lost out in the final here 12 months ago in Barry Hawkins in what should be another spectacular battle.

Betting

The match between John Higgins and Barry Hawkins looks like it could be a close one but I actually think the beaten finalist here a year ago can come through at a decent enough price. Hawkins has already had a match on the tables and we’ve seen that do Shaun Murphy the power of good in this round already and I suspect Hawkins will benefit in the same way.

Higgins warmed up for this tournament by winning in Thailand last week but we’ve already seen the man he beat in the final go out in Stephen Maguire while Mark Williams, a semi-finalist there has also already lost here. Higgins will dig in and fight but it might be that the change in conditions prove his undoing. Hawkins has no excuses and with four runs of 50+, a 99 and a ton in the first round he’s clearly cueing well. He can win this one.
