2019 Specsavers County Championship – Tuesday 10th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

There are three weeks left in the Specsavers County Championship season with the first of those beginning on Tuesday as this wonderful campaign prepares to come to a thrilling conclusion in both divisions.

We have a compelling title race in the top flight to play out while the race for promotion out of Division Two promises to be exciting right until the end. Both stories play out a little more this week with many of the matches taking place on the live streams the counties offer.

Division One

The title protagonists in the top flight are Somerset and Essex and they have very different assignments this week. Somerset will host third placed Yorkshire as they bid to regain top spot while at the other end of the scale the leaders Essex head to Edgbaston to take on a Warwickshire side who will confirm Division One cricket next season with a victory. The other two matches sees Hampshire hosting Surrey at the Ageas Bowl and Kent taking on a Nottinghamshire side who could well be relegated if they lose at Trent Bridge.

Division Two

Lancashire will be expecting to be crowned as promoted this week when they host Derbyshire knowing that a win will see them back to the top flight. The race for the other two promotion spots looks fantastic with just 40pts separating second and eighth. Gloucestershire are currently in second in the table and they’ll do their promotion hopes no harm if they can see off Sussex while Northamptonshire head to bottom of the pile Leicestershire looking to keep hold of third position. Glamorgan are the team looking to break into the top three and they’ll have to do that by winning at Worcestershire. Middlesex host Durham at Lord’s in the other game.

Betting

We’re still relatively new to the red ball stuff again so I’m not going too mad this week but one bet absolutely leaps off the page at me when I go down this fixture list. At this stage of the season freshness and preparation can often be a massive thing and with that in mind Glamorgan look a great bet to see off Worcestershire in a match which is so much more important for the Welsh county anyway.

Worcestershire’s season is all about finals day from here on in so I wouldn’t be surprised if they give big players time off between now and then and don’t really put in maximum effort. Glamorgan need to win the game but unlike Worcestershire they haven’t had to commit practice and things to the white ball. Glamorgan have had the better part of 10 days off so they should have managed to get good red ball preparation in here. That is a big thing and enough for me to take them at even money.
