2019 The Players Championship Golf – Final Round Betting Preview

The final round of The Players Championship takes place on Sunday night and after three rounds of the unofficial fifth major we have a world class leaderboard gathered to attempt to land a huge title so early in the season.

Conditions are expected to get quite brutal on Sunday and with the golf course already one of the most feared in the sport that is set to create drama and tension like we rarely get to see. It is shaping up to be a great night of golf.

New customers, bet €/£20 on the Exchange and if your first bet loses, we’ll refund you €/£20 in Cash. Bet must be placed in first 7 days of account opening. T&Cs apply. 18+|Gamble Aware. Perfect for the Sunday sport!

Round 3 Recap

At the end of the third round it is a trio of European players who head the field with Jon Rahm leading on 15 under par and his Ryder Cup teammates Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood a shot back on 14 under. Jason Day is then the nearest challenger to them on 12 under with the talented Mexican another shot back on 11 under the card. They are the only men within five of the lead although the group on 10 under is loaded and it includes our pre-tournament bet Jim Furyk.

Our third round bet was another one of those annoying ones as Keith Mitchell put a poor start behind him but could only tie with Luke List which is probably the worst result we could have had after he got so close but we get no pay out. We’ll see if we can get that back over the course of Sunday.

Sunday Betting

There is only the outright market to get into in terms of a sizeable market on Sunday but the issue I have with that is that I pretty much have that market surrounded with Fleetwood tied for second and Jim Furyk stalking a place as well. Anything could happen in the predicted conditions on Sunday so those not on either of the two we flagged up before the off could do worse than chance their arm on someone in the group on 10 under and hope the leading four fade away but in truth there isn’t a huge amount of value in anyone that can be trusted. It is over to the two balls for a bet on Sunday.

Sunday 2 Balls

The final pair of Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood head off at 17.35 GMT with Rory McIlroy and Jason Day out 10 minutes before them and that is where most of the attention will sit because the likelihood is that the winner will come from there. A little earlier in the day Patrick Reed and Adam Scott are out with each other while Justin Rose and Eddie Pepperell play together in what should be an appealing group to watch. As far as a bet is concerned it is the penultimate group that interests me.

Jason Day vs Rory McIlroy

Match tees off at 17.25 GMT

The second to last group out onto the golf course is the one featuring two major champions as former winner Jason Day goes out alongside Rory McIlroy who has his eye on a first win at The Players Championship.

I like the Australian in this match I must admit. I didn’t think McIlroy had his best game with him on Saturday and his final round struggles of late have been well documented. He should have won at Bay Hill last week but was horrendous on Sunday and that isn’t the first time this year that has happened. Day can call on the memories of winning around here on a Sunday and I expect him to go after the course here. His game looked in very good order and he doesn’t wilt in contention. At odds against he’s my final round pick.
