Round 2 Recap

At the end of the second round it is the European pair of Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy who lead the way on 12 under par. They have a three shot lead over a quartet of players including our two pre-tournament picks Ian Poulter and Jim Furyk. Abraham Ancer and Brian Harman make up that group. Kevin Kisner, Jason Day and Keith Mitchell sit another shot back on eight under with Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm among a large group on seven under.

It wasn’t the best day for our three ball bets on Friday as both were beaten. Horschel lost by one while Bradley had something of a day to forget and was well beaten by both his playing partners so there is worth to go in the last two rounds to get the match betting back in front.

Saturday Betting

We have a market for the leader at the end of the round but it is hard for me to bet on. Rory McIlroy is understandably all the rage but he is absolutely no price whatsoever and then I have the other three in the last two groups out onto the golf course covered outright so there is no real need to go in on them again. It is hard to see both McIlroy and Fleetwood capsizing in this third round so I wouldn’t really want to be supporting anyone too far back as I’m expecting a relatively low scoring day again ahead of the carnage in tough conditions on Sunday. The market isn’t one for me to play so I’ll head for the two balls.

Saturday 2 Balls

The field now go out in two balls for the final two rounds with the last pairing of Fleetwood and McIlroy out at 18.40 GMT. Ian Poulter and Jim Furyk go out 10 minutes before then so there is much interest for us at the end of the day. Earlier in proceedings, Tiger Woods goes out with Kevin Na at 15.00 with Patrick Reed and Adam Scott being one of the high profile groups. They go out at 17.10. I have one bet and it comes slightly later than that.

Keith Mitchell vs Luke List

Match tees off at 18.00 GMT

The fifth to last group out onto the golf course on Saturday night sees The Honda Classic champion Keith Mitchell partnering Luke List in an all-American pairing between two men who will be eyeing up a late tee time on Sunday.

Both these men are in fine form at the minute. Mitchell followed up his win at the Honda with a solid showing at Bay Hill last week while List has been a model of consistency in recent times. I just think this course suits Mitchell a little more. He’s a wonderful putter which helps but List’s strength comes with the driver, but we’ve seen all week that while it is fine on certain holes, accuracy is becoming more paramount as these greens dry out. That is Mitchell’s DNA and as a result I’ll take him to see off List here.
