2019 USPGA Championship Golf – Side Markets Betting Preview

The USPGA Championship begins in New York on Thursday and before it does there is still enough time to have a lot at the many side markets that are on show for the tournament. We’ve already covered the outright betting but with markets for each nationality and finishing positions on show it would be wrong of us not to get stuck in.

We’ve scoured the side markets and come up with three in the nationality offerings as well as a couple of players in the finishing position market where there appears to be a decent amount of value.

Bet £10 on the outright market and get a £10 free bet for every eagle they make over the week! ALL CUSTOMERS! Click the image above to bet. 18+ T&Cs apply.

Top Asian

There are a number of Asians in the field this week but the beauty of this course and the way it is expected to play this week, is that we can eliminate the pack down to a few select runners. If you don’t have length this week I’m not interested and as a result I’m going with just the longer hitters in terms of consideration.

There are only three men teeing it up this week from Asia who are in the top 50 in driving distance on the PGA Tour. They are Hideki Matsuyama, Byeong-Hun An and Haotong Li. The Japanese ace is around a 2/1 shot to be the leading Asian with the other two at 9/1. I think the other pair are each way shots to nothing given their length but this feels like a week where An should be able to thrive and with that I’ll back him at 9/1.

Top Australian

There is a select bunch of Australians with tee times this week but once again when we apply the driving distance filter we are left with just the main two – Jason Day and Adam Scott, the two favourites for the market and even though Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith are also in the field this week.

Scott is my pick here. He is a leading driver of the ball, not just in distance but in accuracy as well. You never know what state of health Jason Day will turn up in these days. He either pulls out of tournaments with a bad back or needs treatment during it and a few trips to the juicy rough could easily set him off again. Scott isn’t going to have those issues. The only issues he normally has come on the greens but these are among the flatter greens he will find so that weakness should be nullified. With that in mind, at a shade over 11/4 he’s my pick here.

Top Englishman

As you would imagine there are a number of Englishmen in the field this week. Once again though we can get rid of a number of them purely on length grounds. In all there are 12 Englishmen teeing it up but when we apply the top 50 driving distance filter we are left with just four – Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Wallace and Ross Fisher.

You can make an obvious case for all four of them but Rose is 3/1 in this market, Fleetwood 4/1, Wallace 16/1 and Fisher is 33/1. Obviously Rose and Fleetwood are more established than the other two but I wouldn’t say their short game is that much better to justify being a quarter and an eighth or tenth of the odds. If Wallace didn’t suffer heartache in the British Masters last week he would have been my pick here but I took out of Hillside how well the Fish was hitting the ball. I fancy he could thrive on this track and much like An before him, he could be a great each way bet this week.

Top 20 Finish

The top 20 finish market is always a good one to get stuck into especially for those fancies who are huge prices who you think will go well but not quite well enough to snatch a place. Three men tick that box for me and they all come in through the driving distance statistic as well so I think small bets on each of them is the way to go.

Scott Piercy never made a single bogey in Texas last week and that shows how good his all-round game is at the minute. It might not have been the toughest track known to man but the rough was juicy and the greens tricky so his long game went well and his short game held up. If it does that here he shouldn’t be far away at 6/1. Lucas Bjerregaard has a good all-round game as well and this track should suit him nicely too and at a point bigger he’s also worth a go. Earlier in the season Luke List was going off at 20/1-25/1 to win tournaments so it is pretty crazy that we are getting 8/1 on him finishing in the top 20 here. His form has tailed off recently but he remains third in driving distance and with driving everything here he should give us a run too.
