2019 Vitality Blast – Wednesday 24th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Vitality Blast continues on Wednesday evening where three more matches in the competition take place as teams look to establish themselves in their respective groups ahead of launching a tilt at Finals Day later in the season.

We’ve seen some wonderful cricket so far in this tournament and we have another TV match after the first day at Lord’s for us to enjoy. There are two matches away from the cameras where streams and updates are readily available too. Even though it is the later start we’ll kick off with the TV game.

Sussex vs Hampshire

The second meeting between Sussex and Hampshire takes place at Hove on Wednesday evening but this will be the first time the two sides will get on the field against each other after their match on Friday night was washed out without a ball being bowled.

Since then, Hampshire have been beaten by Kent while this will be the first time Sussex have taken to the field in the tournament with it being their second scheduled match. All eyes will be on the bowling attacks of both teams to see if they can live up to the billing, which is pretty high it has to be said. Sussex have a powerful batting line up but it is Hampshire who probably have more depth to their batting.

I’ll go with a couple of bets for this match. The first of them is for Sussex to win the match. Sussex have been a good unit in this format of the game for a while and although there is no denying that having Alex Carey around would help I still think their top six matches up well to anything in the game. Hampshire were a bit of a shambles in this competition last season and even though they made Finals Day the year before they lost six group games along the way. Hampshire have already started with a poor defeat to Kent too. Sussex could do with a little more batting depth in a truly ideal world but I still think they’ve got enough to win here.

Luke Wright has a pretty decent record against Hampshire and I see no reason why he won’t go well again here. While Hampshire’s new ball attack is international quality there isn’t anyone who bowls searing pace in it or stunning yorkers so there is no reason why Wright can’t get into his innings and when he does that, there are few better than him at going on and making a big score. It is close to a sell out in the ground for this one so Wright has a big crowd to play too and playing just white ball cricket he may well want to prove his worth here. He has made 50 in his last two T20 knocks against the rivals and a score in that range could have him as a big price for man of the match.

Nottinghamshire vs Northamptonshire

Trent Bridge hosts a match on Wednesday evening in which is very important for the two sides involved as Nottinghamshire take on Northamptonshire in what is historically a match with plenty of runs and excitement galore.

Whether either batting line up is in the form to deliver the goods on that front remains to be seen. Clearly both these teams have issues at the minute. Something has gone completely wrong with Nottinghamshire and I’m not sure what it is while injuries are starting to hurt Northamptonshire at a time they could least afford it with this competition being so important to them.

Having said all that, I still can’t not take over 11.5 sixes here. The World Cup and the first game here have taken up most of the pitches in the middle of the square so this match is going to be played on the outside of it where short boundaries come into play. There is a slight concern that these batting line ups are out of form but it still shouldn’t take much for these boundaries to be cleared. I’ll play the over.

Birmingham Bears vs Derbyshire

Two sides who have won their only completed matches meet at Edgbaston in what could be a significant night in the North Group when Birmingham Bears host Derbyshire with the winners moving to the top of the early table.

Birmingham Bears saw off Leicestershire in their opening match, a game which they pretty much had won after the first over but that was a freak circumstance and the Foxes haven’t exactly franked the form since then. Derbyshire had a better win over Yorkshire first time out and that victory doesn’t look too bad at all right now. Of the two going into the tournament, I thought the Falcons shaped up the better of the two and I’m prepared to put my money where my mouth is and take Derbyshire at a big looking price.
