The Vitality Blast continues with a couple of matches on Wednesday evening and with the weather clearing up a little we should be back to 20 over contests after the slap and tickle giggle we saw at The Oval on Tuesday evening.
Unfortunately for fans of this competition it is the Women’s Ashes which has the TV treatment so we are reduced to the other methods of keeping up with all the action ahead of the televised stuff returning on Thursday.
Worcestershire vs Derbyshire (17.00)
Both matches are from the North Group on Wednesday evening and the first of them to begin is the one which involves the defending champions Worcestershire who host Derbyshire in what is a big match for both sides.
Worcestershire battered Durham last time out with a serious opening partnership leading the way but I’m still concerned about their form of their batsmen as a unit and with Moeen Ali away with England they don’t have him available. I’m not sure whether I see Derbyshire as a big price or not because they ship a ridiculous number of runs at the minute but if the Worcestershire batting reverts to the performance at Old Trafford, the visitors would have every chance. This isn’t one to bet on with any security so I’ll leave this one alone.
Durham vs Leicestershire (18.30)
The other match taking place on the evening sees Leicestershire making the lengthy trip up north to take on a Durham side who will be reeling from the battering they took by Worcestershire last time out, and looking to bounce back here.
Leicestershire will head up to the Riverside in buoyant form after knocking off Nottinghamshire with a good performance last time out so there is a chance this could be a lot closer than it was when the sides met at Grace Road earlier in the competition when Durham won by nine wickets with a bucket load of overs to spare.
My gut feel is that the home side will come out on top here but I can’t back them in lieu of the carnage they ran into at the weekend. Instead I’ll look towards going over on a modest run line for this match. That is at 313.5 so we’re not even looking for 160 from either side for this to land. Both these bowling attacks have regularly gone for 180+ in this competition but they’ve shown they can score that too. The Riverside pitch isn’t as bad as it used to be so I expect this line to be covered.
