2019 World Series of Darts Finals – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second round of the World Series of Darts Finals makes up the schedule on Saturday night out in Amsterdam as the latest in the huge run of big televised tournaments continues at quite a rate of knots.

The first round is done and that means the seeded players join the fray now so the home crowds will get to see Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld among others for the first time this week on Saturday evening.

First Four Matches

We kick off with a repeat of a match from the opening round of the European Championship last week when James Wade takes on Jonny Clayton. Wade lost that 6-0 so he’ll be out for a bit of revenge here. The Australian surprise package Damon Heta is the second seed onto the stage on Saturday night. He goes up against Mensur Suljovic before Daryl Gurney goes up against one of the form men of the present time in Krzysztof Ratajski. We head into the halfway mark with the match of the second round as Michael van Gerwen takes on Gerwyn Price in a real high quality encounter.

Later Four Matches

Peter Wright is the man given the task of getting the second half of the evening underway when he meets Ian White in another juicy battle before Gary Anderson faces the Dutch star Danny Noppert for a place in the quarter finals. Emotions will be running high in the penultimate match of the night when Raymond Barneveld steps onto the stage for potentially the final time in his career when he goes up against fellow Dutch player Jermaine Wattimena before the second round concludes with Rob Cross taking on Dave Chisnall in yet another excellent looking contest.

Betting

I was hoping that the blip for Mensur Suljovic was just last week but it has clearly bounced over to this week because although he beat Kyle Anderson on Friday night his performance was average. Suljovic is beginning to miss doubles which is unlike him and he doesn’t have the scoring consistency to get away with that. It might be that Damon Heta is stage struck and Suljovic does get away with it but I would imagine, and I hope, that the Australian is seeing this as a free shot this weekend and plays the sort of darts he produced in winning in Brisbane. If he does that and Suljovic continues as he has been the 5/2 on Heta will look big.

Speaking of a big looking price the one on Krzysztof Ratajski looks big enough against Daryl Gurney. I laid my colours to the mast and said I thought the winner of the match between Ratajski and Nathan Aspinall would go deep in this tournament and I’ll stand by that, especially with the Polish star averaging 104 in the first round. Gurney is no mug but you can catch him cold and I think the solid, no nonsense style of Ratajski is likely to be what gets Gurney if anything does. I get why Gurney is favourite but with a match on the stage and the confidence of a monster performance I’ll take the Pole here.
